Government Launches PM Internship Scheme App for Seamless Applications

New Delhi, March 19 – In a significant move to boost youth employment, the government has launched a mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the app on Monday, aiming to streamline the application process, provide real-time updates, and enhance accessibility for aspiring interns.

The PMIS, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, targets one crore internships in the country’s top 500 companies over five years. Following a successful pilot phase in October 2024, which offered 1.25 lakh internships, the government is now expanding the initiative.

Key Features of the PMIS App

• Simple Interface: User-friendly design for easy navigation.
• Aadhaar-Based Registration: Secure sign-ups using facial authentication.
• Instant Alerts: Notifications for new opportunities and selection updates.

Speaking at the launch, Sitharaman emphasized that the scheme will bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, ensuring better job readiness among young professionals. She also urged companies to actively participate in shaping a skilled workforce.

• Round I (October 2024): 1.27 lakh internships posted across 745 districts by 280 companies in 25 sectors. Over 82,000 candidates secured internships.
• Round II (January 2025): 327 companies have already posted 1.18 lakh opportunities. Applications for this phase remain open until March 31.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the PMIS internship, candidates must:

• Be aged 21-24 years.
• Not be enrolled in a full-time educational program.
• Not hold a full-time job.
• Have a family income below 8 lakh per annum and no government-employed family members.
