New Delhi, March 19 – In a significant move to boost youth employment, the government has launched a mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the app on Monday, aiming to streamline the application process, provide real-time updates, and enhance accessibility for aspiring interns.
The PMIS, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, targets one crore internships in the country’s top 500 companies over five years. Following a successful pilot phase in October 2024, which offered 1.25 lakh internships, the government is now expanding the initiative.
Speaking at the launch, Sitharaman emphasized that the scheme will bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, ensuring better job readiness among young professionals. She also urged companies to actively participate in shaping a skilled workforce.
