ADMISSION INFORMATION

The institute's current full-time student body consists of 720 graduate students and 38 doctoral students. The admissions to PGP course is based on the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs for admission to graduate programs in management at thirteen campuses. CAT is considered by test-takers as one of the most competitive exams in the world, with a success rate of about one in hundred. In 2012, around 2.04 lakh students wrote CAT for getting admission to 2650 IIM seats.

49.5% seats in IIM Kozhikode are caste-based reserved quotas according to affirmative action policy of Government of India. 15% of the admitted students must be of the Scheduled Castes, and 7.5% of seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The Other Backward Classes belonging to the "non-creamy layer" have been provided with 27% reservation since 2008 with the consent of the Supreme Court of India. 3% seats are reserved for Persons with Disability (PWD or DA). The reserved category students are admitted based on the CAT score using relaxed admissions criteria.

The institute also uses group discussions, essays and personal interviews to evaluate the students shortlisted based on CAT scores. In 2013, for shortlisting candidates for group discussion/essay/personal interview, IIMK used an index computed with 50 percent weight for the CAT-2012 score, 15 percent weight for academic performance in secondary school, 15 percent weight for academic performance in higher secondary school, 15 percent weight for academic performance in undergraduate level and 5 percent weight for being a female (to ensure gender diversity). For FPM admissions, candidates with CAT, GMAT or GATE scores are eligible. In 2013, the PGP course of IIM Kozhikode had 54 percent girls, up from 28 percent in the previous academic year.

Classrooms

The classrooms at IIMK are designed in a way that they provide a conducive environment which is needed for adequate learning. We, at IIMK, pro-actively use tools for Technology Enhanced Learning and owing to this all the classrooms at IIMK are equipped with all the modern teaching aids needed to support this. Classrooms equipped with computers, multimedia projectors and motorized screens, OHPs, Wireless Presenters and other audio-visual tools ensure that learning is as interactive as possible. In addition to the conventional LAN connectivity in all the classrooms, the classrooms are also Wi-Fi enabled.

There is also a separate high tech room which is equipped with the state-of-the-art ISDN and IP based videoconferencing facilities.

Auditorium

There are 2 auditoriums with seating capacity of about 250 and 400. They are used for conducting seminars, conferences, culture programmes, students' events and other important events of the institute.

Hostels

The institute has 13 well designed hostels capable of accommodating over 800 students. The classrooms, computer centre, canteen, and all other facilities are within walking distance of the hostel. The students are provided rooms on single or double occupancy basis. TV facility and washing machines are provided in every hostel. Facilities for making STD/ISD calls are located within each hostel. The hostels also have facilities for various sports like table tennis, badminton, carrom, chess etc. Other facilities include gymnasium and basic medical facilities. All the hostels rooms have been provided with a LAN connection to cater to the computing needs of the students.

Guest Care

Management Development Centre provides a conducive academic and learning environment for participants of the Management Development Programmes. Accommodation consists of 116 functional Standard and Premium air-conditioned accommodation with attached bathroom, TV with cable connection, small refrigerator and internet connectivity. A separate 90 cover premium dining hall, a reading lounge, classrooms and auditorium, Buzz rooms are other facilities available for the participants. Recreation facilities are existing for indoor and outdoor games (Badminton, TT, Carrom, Billiards, Chess, Volleyball and Cricket). Participants have also advantage of the Institute’s library and computer facilities.

The institute currently has air-conditioned guest houses. Accommodation with attached toilet, TV with cable conection, small refrigerator, coffee maker and internet connectivity are provided in the rooms.

Recreation

Keeping in mind the all round development of students, the institute makes sure that adequate facilities for recreation are provided. Various facilities for sports - both indoor and outdoor are available for use by the students. All the hostels have facilities for various indoor games such as table tennis, carrom, chess etc. In addition to these, institute also has ample space for outdoor sports like badminton, basket ball, football and cricket. Properly maintained grounds ensure that space is never an issue for students to play.

Students of IIMK regularly participate in various inter - college sports competitions including IIMK-IIMB Annual Sports Meet.

Eating Points

Students of IIMK have mess facilities exclusively for them. Apart from the three regular meals, tea and snacks are also provided to the students through the mess. The campus also has a restaurant which caters to the alternative eating habits of the students.

With its roots dating back to 1996, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) was the fifth IIM to be established in the country. The first batch of 42 students were admitted in 1997 and the Institute has since grown tremendously over the years with a current batch strength of 356 odd students, making it the fastest growing management school in the country.

IIMK pioneered the Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) Program for working executives in India, started with 300 class contact hrs in 2001-02.The Two year-long Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management is the most rigorous programme available in the country having around 810 class contact hours with Accreditation of AMBA (Association of MBAs).

The institute moved to its new campus in January 2003 and the number of programs increased manifold with this step. The training activity is expected to witness further growth with the latest 64 room executive hostel and the construction of a modern 200 bed management development complex. The Institute today is a leader in Faculty Development Programmes (FDP), conducting the largest number of programmes (18) totalling 20 weeks in 2008-09, and is the major QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) Centre of the All Indian Council of Technical Education, in the field of management education.

IIMK is also one of the few Centres for Development of Digital Libraries in the world and is a country leader. A prominent achievement which comes to the limelight is the establishment of an Incubation Centre for Excellence, in collaboration with the Government of Kerala to help the Scheduled Castes/tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication, personality etc. Incidentally, IIMK is one of the few management institutes in the country who have filled full quota of SC/ST candidates in its Postgraduate Programme on regular basis with sound track record in job placement. With a highly qualified and experienced faculty, and backed by a large number of committed adjunct and visiting faculty from Industry and other leading management institutes including foreign universities, academics is always a high priority.

The Institute has a strong International Exchange Programme for students and faculty with several leading Management Institutes in EU and ASEAN countries like SDA, Bacconi, Jonkoping, Sweden, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, ESCAP-EAP, France; University of Queensland, Austria, Victoria University of Wellington and so on. An active member of the Strategic Management Forum, IIMK lays stress on organizing Seminar/Conferences and conducts management programs for teachers. Leading Management Institutions like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore and Lucknow alongwith MDI, Gurgaon, XLRI, Jamshedpur and IIFT, New Delhi join hands to conduct week long faculty development programme on various subjects in the field of Strategic Management.
