The Bidhannagar College, Government of West Bengal, had a humble beginning with 52 students on June 25, 1984 in a school building at 142 BF Block, Salt Lake City, Kolkata - 700064.
The foundation stone of the new building was laid by the Honourable Chief Minister, Sri Jyoti Basu on February 17, 1996. The new college campus was inaugurated by the former Honourable Chief Minister, Sri Jyoti Basu on February 22, 2001 in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, the Hon’ble Higher Education Minister, Prof. Satyasadhan Chakraborty and other dignitaries. The new three storied magnificient building, constructed at a cost of Rs 6.4268 crores, has an area of about 70,000 square feet. This new building is meant for the Science departments only. But at present the Humanities departments, the Library and the Administrative wing have also been temporarily accomodated in the present building. Permanent acomodation for these sections in another building is under consideration. The Bidhannagar College, Government of West Bengal, is projected to be a premier institution of the State in the near future.
