B.TECH. COURSE

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Admission into 1st Semester of Any of the 4 Year B.Tech. Degree Courses
    To seek entry into a 4 year B.Tech degree course, a candidate
    • Must have passed the Higher Secondary examination of the AHSEC or any equivalent examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the subjects, in one seating. Must have secured at least 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (40% for SC & ST candidates)
    • Must not be more than 21 years of age or must not be less than 17 years of age on 1st of August of the year in which the admission is sought. Upper age limit is relaxable to 22 years in case of B.Sc. passed candidates. For SC/ST candidate upper age limit may be relaxed by 3 years.
    • Must be mentally and physically fit and must possess a good moral character
  • ADMISSION OF DIPLOMA HOLDERS INTO THE 2ND YEAR/3RD SEMESTER OF A 4 YEAR B.E. DEGREE COURSE
    To seek lateral admission at the 3rd semester level, a candidate
    • Must have passed the Diploma in engineering in the relevant branch with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate. Candidates fulfilling these conditions would only be eligible for appearing in the entrance test meant for selection of Diploma holders for lateral entry to degree programmes. The selection of candidates will be based on merit of the entrance test.
    • Must be mentally and physically fit and must possess a good moral character.

M.TECH. COURSE

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To seek entry into the M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering course, a candidate

  • Must have passed the Bachelor degree (B.E./B.Tech.) or equivalent in Computer Science & Engineering or relevant field. Must have secured at least 50% marks (45% for SC & ST candidates) at the qualifying examination.
  • Must be mentally and physically fit and must possess a good moral character.

INTAKE CAPACITY

The intake capacity is 18. Reservation for SC, ST (P), ST (H), OBC and MOBC will be as per Govt. of Assam rules.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

To get admission into the M.E. course, the candidate has to qualify in one of the following Examinations.

  • GATE
  • GIMT Selection Test for M.Tech.
  • GATE qualified candidates shall be given preference and these candidates do not have to appear in the ASTU/GIMT selection test.

M.B.A. COURSE

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

For admission to the MBA Course, a candidate must have at least a Bachelor's degree from an Indian / Foreign University (recognised by UGC/AIU) securing not less than 50% in Major or in aggregate of the total marks for General category candidates and not less than 45% in Major or in aggregate of the total marks for SC/ST/OBC/other reserved category candidates.

PROVISIONAL ADMISSION

Candidates, who will be appearing in the degree final examination of the respective year can apply for admission subject to the condition that :

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Age Limits: There is no specified age limit for admission to the course.
  • Admissions would be based on the performance of student in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by ASTU or in National level tests (CAT/MAT/ATMA/XAT/CMET) followed by GD & PI.

M.C.A. COURSE

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for admission into MCA course, a candidate :

  • Must have passed the Bachelor's degree (10 + 2 + 3) with a minimum of 50 % (45 % for SC / ST candidates) marks in aggregate or in Honours / Major subject (if any) from Gauhati University or any other recognized University.
  • Must have Maths as a subject in H.S. (10 + 2) or its equivalent examination. A student waiting for the declaration of the result for his / her Bachelor's degree examination may also seek provisional admission. But such a student must sign an undertaking that his/ her provisional admission is conditional and subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for admission stated above.

LATERAL ADMISSION

  • Candidates, who have qualified in B.Sc (Computer Science / IT) / BCA with minimum 50% (45% for SC / ST candidates) marks in aggregate from Gauhati University or any other recognized University, may seek admission in 3rd semester directly.
  • Must have Maths as a subject in H.S. (10 + 2) or its equivalent examination.

TRANSPORT

GIMT runs college Bus service along major routes from the city to the college and back. The arrangement will be continued as long as deemed necessary.

EDUCATIONAL LOAN

The Institute extends support to the students in availing educational loan from renowned nationalised banks.

CANTEEN

A well equipped canteen is housed in a spacious building providing hygienic breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks to students, faculty and staff members at moderate rates.

HOSTEL FACILITIES

The construction of girls hostel inside the college campus has almost been completed. Approximately 70 first semester girls will be accommodated within the college campus. In addition two boys hostels are being run by the college authority outside the college premises.

The Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management & Technology was established with due approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and necessary permission from the State Government. GIMT is affiliated to the oldest and most reputed University in the State i.e. Gauhati University. The Institute was founded on 7th September 2006 as the first non-governmental engineering institute in the state of Assam under the aegis of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society, a registered service organization set up in the year 1992 to make significant contribution for social upliftment through education and also to inculcate among the youth a sense of discipline.

The first session of the Institute commenced on 13th July 2006 with 240 students in four disciplines leading to the Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETE), Applied Electronics and Instrumentation (AEI), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Information Technology (IT). Two more undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Electrical Engineering (EE) were added in the years 2007 and 2008 respectively.

The first post-graduate course in Business Administration leading to award of M.B.A degree was introduced in the year 2008. In 2009, the second post graduate course in Computer Application leading to award of M.C.A degree commenced at the institute.

The Institute also has approval from AICTE to start post-graduate courses in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) and Instrumentation & Control Engineering (ICE). Classes for M.E. in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) commenced w.e.f. September 2012 and the other two M.E. courses w.e.f. from 2014. Also, the Institute is likely to offer the Ph.D. program in the coming year.

Since August 2013, the institute has also been affiliated to newly created university by the Government of Assam named “Assam Science & Technology University”. All admissions in Engineering, Management and Computer Application since August 2013 have been conducted under Assam Science & Technology University. Students of earlier batches, who took admission under Gauhati University, will continue under the Gauhati University till they complete their academic curriculum.
