COURSES OFFERED

Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management

PFM is a two-year fully residential Post Graduate level diploma programme. The three major specialized modules offered in the two years Post Graduate Programme in Forestry Management (PFM) are.

  • Conservation and Livelihood (C&L)
  • Environmental Management (EM)
  • Developmental Management (DM)

The PFM programme offers dual specialization, (i) major specialization; and (ii) minor specialization to the students.

Major Specialization
A student has to opt for one major specialization from available three specializations by opting minimum 8.0 credit courses in total (4.0 Credit compulsory and remaining 4.0 credit electives courses, from major specialization area, offered during Term V & VI ). However, the total credit to be taken in each Vth and VIth term is 6.0 credit per term. The choice of major specialization will be based on the cumulative academic performance from Term I to Term III and also the preference of the student.

Minor Specialization
A student can also have a minor specialization by opting 4.0 credit courses from available compulsory / elective courses of the relevant module chosen for minor specialization. The choice of opting for minor specialization rests with the students.

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

The FPM is a doctoral program designed to develop and equip students for career opportunity in management education and research in the following faculty areas of specialization:

  • Communication and Extension Management
  • Ecosystem and Environment Management
  • Environment and Developmental Economics
  • Financial Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Information Technology and Quantitative Techniques
  • Marketing Management
  • Sociology and Community Development
  • Technical Forestry

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management

A candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (it may also be referred to as Persons With Disability (PWD) categories), awarded by any of the universities incorporated by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be Deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Human resource Development, Government of India.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2016 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2016) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.


M.Phill

The minimum qualification for all candidates shall be Post Graduate degree/diploma in the field of Science/Engineering/ Management and related Social sciences. (The equivalence will be decided by the Institute) or its equivalent with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks recognized by an Indian University or Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The relaxation of 5% marks at the Masters Degree (P.G) eligibility criterion shall be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/DA category as per the guidelines of UGC.

For in-service category, Officers from Indian Forest Service, State Forest Services, Group ‘A’ Officers or equivalent from Govt. Departments/Public Sector and representatives from NGOs with minimum three years of experience in the fields related to natural resource management can apply.


Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

Candidates must not be more than 45 year as on 1st July 2014 and must qualify the following eligibility tracks :

  • A Bachelors Degree with atleast 50 percent marks, and
  • Masters degree (minimum two years prescribed duration after 10+2+3 years of formal education) in relevant discipline (relevancy has to be decided by the IIFM) with at least 55% marks including Five year/Four year Integrated masters Degree programme and with good academic records.

    Professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS with atleast 55% marks.

    For IIFM Graduates, who have done PGDFM and IIM graduates who have done PGDM, the minimum OGPA of 3.00 in 4.33 maximum scale, is required.

    For MRM Post graduates from IIFM, with 3.00 CGPA.

Note: For those qualifications where the above 4.33 scale is not available, the eligibility will be decided by the Equivalence Committee constituted by the Director, IIFM and its decision will be final.

A collection of 312 films on forestry, environment, conservation & management. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is available on all terminals connected through LAN.

Computer Center

IIFM is equipped with excellent computing resources. The Computer Centre has hardware and software resources that are capable of providing support for diverse computing requirements. It has a number of desktops in Local Area Network (LAN) and has state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) and Image Processing facilities. Computing support is provided to students twenty four hours a day.

  • »  Campus wide local area network with wireless LAN support on a fiber optic backbone having computers on multiple domain supporting Word Processing, Spreadsheet and RDBMS Packages, Statistical Software, CASE Tools, Programming languages, Project Management and Financial Accounting Software.
  • »  Latest Desktops with TFT, AO sized scanner, AO sized digitizer, AO sized plotters, Laser and High Speed Printers, ARC/INFO GIS Software, ERDAS Imagine Digital Image Processing Software, SPSS, Tally.
  • »  24 Hours Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi classrooms including E-mail through a dedicated leased line of 4 MBPS from BSNL and National Knowledge Network (NKN)

Hostel and Mess Facilities

Hostel complex consists of three hostels namely, Nilgiri, Vindhyachal and Aravalli, altogether have fully furnished 112 rooms with separate block for girls (Aravalli Hostel) to accommodate (on twin sharing basis) students. All the hostels are provided with solar/geyser facility for hot water facility round the year. The hostels have common rooms with TV and DTH Connection (full package), gym and indoor games etc. The hostel rooms are connected with internet facility through LAN. Doctors are visiting the IIFM Campus on every alternate day. Students can consult them free of cost and they have to procure medicines on their own. In case of medical emergency students are provided Institute’s vehicle to consult doctors outside the campus. Sports complex consists of Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Lawn Tennis and Badminton Courts. TT Table is also placed in the Badminton Hall and in girl’s hostel. A play ground is also available for football and cricket.

Hostel complex have three air conditioned rooms for providing accommodation for parents visiting their wards at nominal charges.

Students are encouraged to organize various activities i.e., sports, cultural, literary activities through various clubs formed under Students Affairs and Alumni Council (SAAC), whose officials are elected by the students themselves. By this they feel home like situation in the campus.

Mess is run by student mess committee (elected term-wise) on cooperative basis. Basic infrastructure and partial manpower are provided by the Institute as a subsidy. The Mess is equipped with automated and semi-automated equipment and cooking systems. It is capable of serving about 300 people at-a-time.

Sports Facilities

A wide range of sporting facilities are available on campus. The Institute has good facilities for indoor and outdoor sports like Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Carrom, Football, Cricket and Volleyball. Intra-Institute sports tournaments are organized regularly and the Institute participates every year in the All India Forest Sports and Games Meet organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Each activity inculcates a sense of discipline and sportsmanship. While a defeat calls for an improvement, a victory teaches us not to merely rest on our laurels but to strive for perfection. Each tournament is marked with a high level of energy, display of god like sporting skills and keen participation. Here at IIFM, every goal scored is cheered, every run scored is applauded and every point won calls for a great celebration.

The Indian Institute of forest management, Bhopal was established in 1982 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, IIFM was conceptualized in response to the recommendations of the National Commission on Agriculture. The impetus generated by these recommendations culminated in an alliance with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad through which the philosophy and raison d’être of IIFM was evolved. The Swedish International Development Agency also contributed financially and technically in establishing the Institute. Since its inception, IIFM has been home to some of the most brilliant young minds who are constantly raising the bar of excellence in this dynamic field.
