    + Eligibility

    Eligibility Criteria in Qualifying Examinations:
    B.Tech. (CE, ME): Passed 10+2/equivalent with 45% marks (40% in Reserved Category) in Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics.
    B.Tech. (AI&DS, CSE, ECE, EEE, IT): Passed 10+2/equivalent with 50% marks in Physics & Maths (Mandatory) and any one from the following:
    Computer Science / Electronics / Information Technology / Biology / Chemistry / Informatics Practices / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational subject / Engineering Graphics / Business Studies / Entrepreneurship

    Qualifying Examination:
    Candidates applying for UG Engineering admission should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2024, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
    • The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.
    • Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
    • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    • As per SMIT Norms, Regular 'NIOS' board candidates are also eligible for Undergraduate Engineering programmes. Applicants should produce the Migration Cum Transfer Certificate at the time of joining.
    • They should also provide the marks secured in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Total (including all subjects) and upload the scanned copy of the mark list and other relevant documents whenever available on the application form.
    Entrance Examinations:
    • SMIT Online Test – Conducted by SMU specifically for SMIT.
    • *JEE – Conducted by CBSE, candidates need to apply and later submit the scorecard.
    • MET– Common entrance test for Technological Institutions of Manipal Group
    • * SMIT does not participate in common counselling of JEE, Seats are allotted on the basis of JEE score under General, NE, Sikkim, and Defence category.
    • Note: Candidate appearing in qualifying examination may also apply for the entrance examination
    Subject Eligibility:
    Candidates having studied Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry in +2 / Higher Secondary Board are eligible for all the B.Tech. Programmes.

    • SMET – Conducted by SMU specifically for SMIT.
    • *JEE – Conducted by CBSE, candidates need to apply and later submit the scorecard.

    • Sikkim – Nominated by Director Technical Education, Education Department, Government of Sikkim.
    • Defense and Paramilitary – Preference will be given to personnel stationed in Sikkim

    + Before Commencement of the Test

    • Make sure you have a good internet connection.
    • It is recommended that you reboot your computer/ laptop before beginning to free up memory resources from other programs on your computer.
    • This is a webcam enabled test.
    • Please note that the web camera can either be built-in to your monitor.
      OR
      It can be mounted on top of your monitor
    • Check the webcam before the test, it should be in a working condition and web camera must be turn on.
    • Check that the web cam picture is in focus. If your picture is out-of-focus, please adjust your web camera settings. Ensure that the web camera will capture your face from the neck upwards. Your entire face must be clearly visible on the web camera during the exam period.
    • The picture being captured must not be too dark or too light.
    • If the web cam footage captured during your exam attempt does not meet the above criteria, your exam attempt may be deemed invalid, and you may lose the right to give test.
    • Uninstall any third-party software installed on the system for webcam before starting the test.
    • Use latest / updated web browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox). Allow / Enable pop-ups.
    • Shut down all Instant Messaging tools (Skype, AIM, MSN Messenger, Google talk, yahoo messenger etc) and Email programs as they can conflict with exam dashboard and exam dashboard might get deactivated.
    • During the exam do not use any other internet browser, it may deactivate your exam dashboard and exam will end / cancelled.
    • Before the commencement of test clear all the caches and cookies.
    • Maximize your browser window before starting the test.
    • Once You are absolutely ready to give the exam, click “Start the Exam” button.
    During the Test
    • Do not resize (minimize) the browser during the test.
    • Do not press Back or Refresh Button on the browser during the test.
    • Click the “Submit” button to submit your exam. Do not press “Enter” on the keyboard to submit the exam.

    + SMIT Online Test Pattern

    All Questions will be in English and of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) type

    • Total exam duration is 90 minutes.
    • All questions are compulsory.
    • There will be no negative marks for wrong answers.
    • The merit list will be prepared based on the candidate’s score in SMET.
    • In case more than one candidate secures the same marks (tie), tie will be broken by awarding higher rank to the candidate with the higher score in the mathematics section of SMET. If the tie persists, higher score in physics section will determine the higher rank. Subsequently, higher score in chemistry section then score in English section decides the higher rank.
    • In case of any dispute, SMIT decision on the Rank finalization shall be final and no further communication will be entertained.
