CBSE: May hold exams twice yearly from 2025-26
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
May hold exams twice yearly from 2025-26

According to PTI, the Ministry of Education suggests that CBSE might conduct biannual board exams starting in 2025-26 to ease stress and enhance student opportunities. While a semester system isn't on the table yet, the ministry has tasked CBSE with logistics for the biannual exams.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on August 23, 2023, that the new curriculum framework (NCF), aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, had been finalized. The PTI accessed document proposed several alterations to the CBSE curriculum, including the suggestion for biannual board exams.

The document stated, "Board exams will be conducted at least twice annually to ensure students have ample time and opportunities to excel. They can choose to sit for exams in subjects they have completed and feel prepared for, with the option to retain their best score."

Furthermore, on February 24, 2024, Pradhan indicated that starting from the academic year 2025-26, students would have the option to take board exams twice annually.

Briefly:
  • CBSE contemplates biannual board exams starting in the 2025-26 academic session, as per PTI sources.
  • No intentions for implementing a semester system.
  • School principals to be consulted next month regarding this matter.
