UNDER GRADUATE ADMISSION INFORMATION
BDS is Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Modern Indian dentists earn the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree (B.D.S.), which requires four years of study and one year of internship. This degree is overseen by the Dental Council of India.
In most states, one has to appear for an entrance test conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education, whereas some autonomous universities conduct their own entrance tests.
POST GRADUATE ADMISSION INFORMATION
Post graduate courses (Master of Dental Surgery. MDS) are also available in different specialties. It requires 3 years of study after BDS.
Infrastructure
The huge college campus provides adequate space for all academic and co-curricular activities. The College has a magnificent building to accommodate Reception, Administrative Office, Classrooms, Staff Rooms, Laboratories, Library, Auditoriums, Conference Halls, Examination Hall and Recreation centres. The campus includes Hostels, Residential accommodation (separately for girls and boys) for junior and senior faculty, mess and 100-bedded General Hospital spread on total area of 70266.50 sq.ft (double the area prescribed by Dental Council of India) surrounded by huge sprawling lawns with lush greenery all around.
Hostels
Well furnished hostel accommodation is provided separately for boys and girls. These are located with adequate open space and gardens around them within the campus. Both the Hostels are having good spacious rooms with toilets, study tables and cupboards. More rooms are being added to meet the increasing demand from the students. Both the blocks have reading rooms with Mess facilities etc.
Each hostel has its own mess. The management keeps strict control over hygiene and quality of food served in the Mess. A Hostel Advisory Committee consisting of senior faculty members, Students representative and Warden of the Hostels looks after the Hostels. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and airy and fees have been kept at reasonable levels. Adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure their safety. The hostels are closely monitored by the resident wardens.
Library
The College has an excellent central library. It has a total area of 5000 sq ft with provision for a separate reading room for the teaching staff and spacious reading halls to accommodate over 120 students. Faculty and Student are benefitted with huge library with over 4,063 books along with 21 national and 18 international journals. Library subscribes to most of the National and International journals required for the Undergraduate and Post Graduate students and faculty. A peaceful ambience is always maintained here.
Laboratories
In any institution of higher learning, the barometer that indicates its standard is the sophistication of its laboratory. Because of the fact that the future is dependant on in-depth study and hands-on experience, the young student needs to identify and relate himself with research and development at this early stage. The Dental College is well-equipped for analytical research.

Canteen
There is a Canteen functioning in the Basement of the college and it functions on all working days of the college The working hours of canteen are 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. Snacks, vegetarian and some times non-vegetarian food items are available for students, staff, parents and visitors.
Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Nagpur was established in 1968 to fulfill aspirations of students to obtain professional "education and growing demand for education in dentistry in this region."Initially it was affiliated to the University of Nagpur.The college has been recognized by the Dental Council of India. Over the years, this College has earned recognition and reputation at the National and International level. Currently, one undergraduate and one postgraduate courses are being offered at this College including induction of PhD programme. The College is housed in a building of 70266.50 sq.ft. Students are given training in basic medical and dental sciences, scientific literature, research and appraisal research methodology, Biostatistics, evidence-based methods, computer applications, presentation skills and professional ethics. Training is also provided in multispecialty and multi systems management of patients. A highly interactive learning environment has been a unique feature of our training programme.
Regular continuing education programmes are conducted to keep the students and faculty abreast with the latest knowledge. An exhaustive collection of resources with internet facility in the library and teaching-learning aids and material in every department form the backbone of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate training programmes. A large number of patients with varied pathology that our students get as clinical! material, gives them the confidence required for independent speciality practice.
