Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (B.H.M.S.)

Duration : 5½ Years (including compulsory 1 year internship after passing the Final Degree Examination)

The Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) Degree course is of 4 1/2 years duration plus compulsory Internship of one year after passing the Final Degree Examination. The curriculum consists of following subjects of study and Examination of the BHMS (Degree) Course.

• Anatomy, Histology and Embryology.
• Physiology including Bio-Chemistry.
• Organon of Medicine, The Principles of Homoeopathic Philosophy and Psychology.
• Homoeopathic Pharmacy.
• Homoeopathic Materia Medica.
• Pathology, Microbiology including Parasitology, Bacteriology and Virology.
• Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
• Surgery including E. N.T, Opthalmology, Dentistry, Orthopaedics and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Obstetrics, Gynaecology including Infant care and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Community Medicine.
• Practice of Medicine including Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Skin Diseases and Homoeopathic Therapeutics.
• Case Taking and Repertory.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Candidates who have passed the higher Secondary examination (10+2)or its equivalent examinations with physics, chemistry and biology are eligible to appear in competitive examination after specified notification by West Bengal Central Selection Committee, Deptt. Of ISM & Homoeopathy, Govt of West Bengal.
• Candidates who have attained the age of minimum 17 years before his / her admission to the 1st BHMS course.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Admissions will be done on the basis of merit list after Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the JENPARH, Govt of W.B. as per their norms or after getting prior approval from the Central Selection Committee, Govt of West Bengal.

• Application for admission must be made in the prescribed form which will be supplied during admission along with Prospectus on payment of the prescribed fees of Rs.300/- in cash/D.D.
• The application form for admission duly filled in by the candidate must reach the college office within the stipulated date.
• Application for admission should be submitted along with the following enclosures.
  
  • Qualifying Examination Marks Card issued by West Bengal Central Selection Committee.
  • Transfer Certificate & School leaving Certificate.
  • Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended.
  • Two Pass-Port & three Stamp size recent colour photographs.
  • Two attested photo copy of 10+2 Standard or equivalent examination mark sheet.
  • Attested photo copy of admit card of Madhyamik examination.
  • One attested photo copy of S.C. or S.T. Certificate of candidate belongs to if any.
  • Migration Certificate from the concerned Board or University for outside Students.
  • Physical Fitness Certificate issued by competent authority.
  • A declaration will have to be signed by the Student and Parents / Guardian at the time of admission in presence of Principal / Admission Committee (Prescribed-format will be supplied at the time of admission to the college.).
• Testimonials in original should be produced at the time of admission.
  
  • Note : Admission secured on the basis of false information shall stand cancelled and the fees forfeited.

The Burdwan Homoeopathic Medical College was established on 14th June, 1978. Initially it started with the then prevailing D.M.S. course under Council of Homoeopathic Medicine, W.B. and since 1983 as per the directive of Central Council of Homoeopathy it started unified diploma course D.H.M.S. In the year 1992 Central Council of Homoeopathy decided to upgrade all the Homoeopathic Institutions in the country from diploma to Degree level and after getting due affiliations and permissions from concerned authorities our college started degree course, i.e. B.H.M.S. in the year 1995.

Burdwan Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is duly permitted by Central Council of Homoeopathy, to conduct regular under - graduate course in Homoeopathy viz. Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery [B.H.M.S.] and it is recognized by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Deptt. of ‘AYUSH’ and Govt of west Bengal, Deptt. of Health & Family Welfare Ayush Branch. Permitted by Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi and affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences.

At BHMCH we recognize that no science can be static and to enrich the science of homoeopathy continuous learning and compilation of experience of its practitioners must continue. This medical college caters to the changing needs of homoeopathic learning and an expression of Homoeopathic Pioneer’s commitment towards providing quality education. The institute endeavors to produce learned homoeopaths with a rich and commanding knowledge of the fundamentals of Homoeopathy. We guide and support our students throughout the course and beyond as they tread the path of learning homoeopathy.

This was the only college in W.B. who got permission to run the graded BHMS course of 2 years duration under the University of Burdwan and The West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
