Admission in B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. (General / Honours)

Admission process starts immediately after the publication of Higher Secondary examination results of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Admission process is followed by the Regulations and norms as laid down by the Gour Banga University and College authorities.

Eligibility Criteria :

A student may be admitted to B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Three Years Degree Course (General/Honours) after passing the Higher Secondary Examination in the general stream conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education in (10+2) pattern after a period of 12 years study or a examination recognized as equivalent by the University provided he/she has passed in at least five subjects with English and Environmental Studies as compulsory subjects. In case of other Boards wherein Environmental Studies is not a compulsory subject, the student shall have to pass in at least five subjects with English as a compulsory subject.

  • General Course : Subject to the eligibility criteria, the merit lists for the General Courses will be prepared on the basis of Grand Total of best five subjects including English but excluding Environmental Studies.

  • Honours Course : Those candidates who would obtain either (i) 45% marks in the Grand Total or (ii) 40% in the Grand Total with 50% marks in the subject in the qualifying examination shall be eligible to apply for admission to Honours course in the subject concerned. Admission to a course shall be subject to availability of seats and based on Merit.

    Provided that for SC/ST candidates, the minimum marks for this eligibility shall be (i) 40% marks in the Grand total or (ii) 35% in the Grand Total with 50% in the subject for admission to Honours course in the subject concerned.
    • In the Matter of eligibility to apply for admission to Honours courses 44.5% marks or above shall be treated as 45% marks and 49.5% marks or above shall be treated as 50%.
    • Subject to the eligibility criteria, the merit lists for the Honours courses will be prepared as =

    • In case any candidate opted for an Honours beyond his subject combination at H.S. (10+2) Level, the merit lists for the Honours Courses will be prepared as =
    • 0 (Zero) + Grand Total (best 6 including Eng, excluding Env Stud)

Special Instruction :

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Physics if he/she has passed in Mathematics and Physics at the qualifying Examination.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Botany if he/she has passed in Botany or Biology at the qualifying Examination.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Zoology if he/she passed in Zoology or Biology at the qualifying Examination.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Computer Science as Honours subject if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the qualifying Examination.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Geography if he/she has passed in Geography at the qualifying examination.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Economics as Honours subject if he/she has passed in Mathematics or Business Economics including Business Mathematics at the qualifying Examination.

  • No student other than those of Science stream shall be allowed to take science subjects as elective in General course.

  • No student of Honours category other than those of Economics shall be allowed to take science subjects as elective in general courses.

  • A candidate shall be allowed to prosecute B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. in general course if he/she has passed the qualifying examinations in Vocational stream subject.

  • No candidate shall be allowed to take up more than one of the following as elective subject. If a candidate choose any one of the following as Honours subject, he/she will not be allowed to take-up any one of the following as elective subject.

Facilities

The institution offers hostel accommodation which is well equipped with telephone, fire extinguisher and other necessary facilities. Amenities like Free studentship, Aid - Fund etc particularly for the students coming from low-income groups and backward communities are easily available in the college.
Students get enriched by participating themselves in seminar, symposia, exhibitions etc. held in the institution at times and by contributing articles in the college-magazines and wall-magazines.

There is a vast playground to the north side of the college premises adjacent to a beautiful pond with crystal clear water which is submerged with the ecological characteristics of the college.
The road and railway communication to the college is splendid. The local schools and the District Head Quarter, Raiganj are well connected and conveyances are also easily available.
The college is affiliated to Gour Banga University which is not far-away from the college. It takes around two hours by bus to reach the University from college. All modern communicating facilities, like Fax, email, Internet are available in the college.

All the major offices/institutions such as Municipality Office, Banks, Post Office, Hospital, Anchal Panchayat Office, Block Development Office and all schools of this area are in close vicinity of the college.

Library

Kaliyaganj College Library provides open access facilities to its students, teachers and other staff. The library has 20,215 books of various disciplines having 2,000 different titles. On regular basis the library is the subscriber of 21 journals. The library provides photo-copying facilities. The library remains opened from 11 am to 5 pm on every working days (except Saturday). For Saturday it remains opened up to 2 pm.

Laboratories

The laboratories of Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Computer Science, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology are quite spacious and well equipped with up to date apparatus.

Computer Center

The college has a Central Computer Centre with Internet and LAN facilities where all the employees of the college have free access.
Besides that the computer science department has its own laboratory. Teaching staff room has four computers with internet facilities where teachers carry on their research work for the academic upgradation of the whole institution.

Students’ Hostel

Boys’ Hostel

The Boys’ hostel situated to the north end corner of the college. It can accommodate 20 male students only. A hostel superintendent takes care of the boarders in the hostel.

Women’s Hostel

The college has received an approval of Rs 99,12,593/= under the UGC special scheme for Womens’ Hostel. An amount of Rs. 49,56,297/= of this scheme has already been received and utilized by the college and the construction work is in process.

With the missionary zeal, untiring efforts, noble sacrifices and undaunted initiative of the people of the locality in general, Kaliyaganj College was brought into existence as the temple of learning on the auspicious day of 20th August 1968 to cater to the long felt thirst for knowledge of young rural aspirants in conformity with the ever increasing craze for higher education in the post-Independence era. Affiliated to the University of Gour Banga (earlier North Bengal), this college is one of the largest degree colleges in the district of Uttar Dinajpur. The College has in its own possession 12.31 acres of land enriched with the potentiality for developing it into an ideal institution for higher studies.

Meanwhile, it has attained an imposingly pleasant growth, from a humble beginning, but as a matter of fact, even today, it has miles to go. And it is growing amazingly fast.
