for Foreign Nationals

Minimum Qualifications

  • Should have a minimum of 12 years of education.
  • Should have passed the 10+2 High school leaving Examination or equivalent with at least first division/class or its equivalent.
  • Age should not be more than 25 years old as on 1st July of the year for which admission is sought.
  • Should have a valid Passport.
  • Should have obtained his/her high school leaving (10+2 level) certificate from an accredited institution of his/her country.

Course Specific Minimum Qualifications

Course/Degree Additional Minimum Qualifications & Selection Criteria
B.A. in Bengali
  • Successful completion of at least one paper in Bengali language and literature at the 10+2 level
  • satisfactory performance in the written qualifying test to be conducted by the department
B.A. in Comparative Literature
  • Successful completion of two languages, one of which may be English, at the 10+2 level.
  • Proof of proficiency in the English language through appropriate certification, such as, TOEFL; and,
  • Satisfactory performance in online audio visual interview and the test administered by the Department, using online chatting and texting options, such as through Skype.
B.A. in Economics
  • at least 70% marks (or its equivalent in Grade system) in aggregate at the 10+2 level
  • Successful completion of at least one paper on Mathematics securing not less than 75% marks at 10+2 level
B.A. in English
  • Successful completion of at least one paper on either English language or English literature, at the 10+2 level
  • Proof of proficiency in the English language through appropriate certification, such as, TOEFL;
  • Satisfactory performance in online audio visual interview and English proficiency test, using online chatting and texting options, such as through Skype.
  • Submission of a writing sample of the specific length and satisfactory standard.
B.A. in Political Science
  • Applicants must have secured at least 60 % of marks in the aggregate at the 10+2 level
Bachelor in Library & Information Science
  • 3 (three) years graduation with Honours in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or, Masters in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marksCertificate of proficiency in the English language such as, TOEFL, IELTS.
B.A. in Philosophy
  • a Statement of Purpose of approx 1,000-2,000 words, demonstrating interest in and understanding of Indian/Western/Contemporary Philosophy
  • Satisfactory performance in online audio visual interview and English proficiency test, using online chatting and texting options, such as through Skype.
B.A. in Sanskrit
  • Successful completion of at least one paper on Sanskrit at the 10+2 level.
  • Proficiency in Devanagari Script (both reading and writing)
  • Certificate of proficiency in the English language such as, TOEFL or IELTS.
B.A. in Sociology
  • Proof of proficiency in the English language through appropriate certification, such as, TOEFL or IELTS.

Desirable Qualification

  • Students having valid SAT score/Grade will be given preference.
  • Since the medium of instruction is English, among the candidates whose medium of instruction was not English, preference will be given to those who have obtained a valid score in English Language Qualifying Examination such as (i) British Council Language Test (IELTS) or (ii) TOEFL.

Procedure

  • The application should contain the following documents:
    • Photo copy of the Grade Card/Mark-sheet and Certificate for (10+2) High School Leaving Examination.
    • Photocopy of the document showing the SAT score, if any.
    • Photocopy of the document showing the IELTS / TOEFL score (For non-English medium students), if any.
    • Certificate from the Principal of the High School last attended showing the accreditation of the Institution from which the candidate obtained his/her High School Leaving Certificate.
    • Recommendation of two responsible persons (in the prescribed form) preferably from the teacher/Principal/Head of the Institution attended last by the applicant.
    • Two Passport size photographs.
    • Photocopy of the first two pages of his/her passport.
    • A write up of 300 words (approximately) from the applicant stating the reason(s) for asking admission in Jadavpur University and the purpose of study.
    • Subject curriculum of the programme last attended.
  • The application from duly filled in sealed envelope along with recommendation letter and a bankers draft of US$ 50 or equivalent in favour of ‘Jadavpur University’ payable at Kolkata, India, should reach by post to the International Students Advisor, Jadavpur University at the following address:

N.B.:
The above fess structure and other costs relating to admission of International Students are applicable to the students of developed countries only and the students from developing/low-income/low-middle income countries as specified by UNO and as applicable at the time of admission/registration/enrollment will have to pay the 50% of all type of fees and costs shown above in each case. Fees once deposited, no refund is to be made.
