The National Law University Delhi, established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 of Delhi is a premier law university in the capital city of India. The University invites online applications for admission to B.A.LL.B.(Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes for the Academic Year 2023-24.

    + B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) [Five-Year Programme]

    • Eligibility for Admission:
      • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
      • Candidate have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 45% of the total marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability). The Eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of (10+2) system or an equivalent examination.
      • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility by such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result and in case such candidate is placed in compartment in the year of the admission, would be treated as ineligible.
      • Foreign National Candidates are exempted from taking All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). The other regulations regarding the eligibility for admission will be the same as applicable to the other candidates. The candidates belonging to OCI/PIO category shall have the option to apply either under the Foreign National category or under the category of Indian students. In case the OCI/PIO candidate apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All India Law Entrance Test along with other candidates.
      • Definition of Foreign Nationals: The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold valid passport of foreign country.
      • Definition of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO): As notified by the Govt. of India.

      5% Horizontal Reservation across the categories has been provided to the PwD Category candidate.

      Scheduled Castes (15%) and Scheduled Tribes (7.5%) Categories
      In order to claim reservation under these categories, the candidate must have valid certificate issued by the competent authorities. Any unfilled seat(s) reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) will be converted to Scheduled Tribes (ST) and vice-versa and will not be offered to any other reserved category. In case sufficient number of eligible candidates of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are not available in the respective category, the seats thus remaining vacant will be treated as General and will be offered to the General Category candidates in order of merit. A list of approved Competent Authorities for the issuance of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes certificates is as follows:
      • District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Collector, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Collector, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, City Magistrate (not below the rank of 1st class Stipendiary Magistrate), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Taluk Magistrate, Executive Magistrate and Extra Assistant Commissioner;
      • Chief Presidency Magistrate, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate and Presidency Magistrate;
      • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar;
      • Administrator, Secretary to the Administrator or the Development Officer (Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands).
      Other Backward Classes (OBCs)-Non-Creamy Layer (22%)
      22% seats are reserved for OBCs (Non-Creamy Layer) Category. The candidate possessing a valid OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued by the competent authority under the Central List of OBCs or under the Delhi State List of OBCs (Notified by the Government of NCT of Delhi) will be eligible to apply under this category.
      • The non-creamy layer certificate should be issued on or after 1st April 2022.
        A list of approved Competent Authorities for the issuance of OBC certificates is as under:
        - District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner, Collector, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Collector, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, City Magistrate (not below the rank of 1st class Stipendiary Magistrate), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Executive Magistrate.
        - Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/ Presidency Magistrate
        - Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and
        - Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.
      Economically Weaker Section-EWS (10%)
      10% seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of a valid Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the following authority, shall only be accepted as proof of candidate's claim as belonging to EWS:
      • District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner / 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Taluka Magistrate / Executive Magistrate / Extra Assistant Commissioner.
      • Chief Presidency Magistrate / Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate / Presidency Magistrate.
      • Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and
      • Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or his family normally resides.
      The EWS certificate should be issued on or after 1st April 2022

      Persons with Disabilities (PWD) 5% horizontal reservation
      Horizontal reservation of 5% has been provided to the candidates belonging to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category in accordance with the provisions of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016". The candidates possessing a valid PwD certificate issued by the competent authority as per the provisions of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 will be eligible to apply under this category.

      Kashmiri Migrants (KM) - One Supernumerary Seat
      One supernumerary seat is earmarked for Kashmiri Migrants. Kashmiri Migrants includes Kashmiri Pandits/Kashmiri Hindu Families (Non-Migrants) who are living in the Kashmir Valley. A valid certificate issued by the competent authority for availing benefit under this category is to be produced by candidate at the time of provisional admission. Since seat of Kashmiri Migrant quota is supernumerary, it will not be converted at all in any other category in case it remains unfilled.

      Residents of Jammu and Kashmir- Two Supernumerary Seats
      Two supernumerary seats are earmarked for Residents of Jammu & Kashmir. A valid certificate issued by the competent authority for availing benefit of this category will have to be produced by candidate at the time of provisional admission. Since the seats of Residents of Jammu & Kashmir category quota are supernumerary, they will not be converted at all in any other category in case they remain unfilled.

      Other Important instructions
      • The required certificate(s) for reserved categories/classes will be essential and to be produced in original at the time of provisional admission. No provisional admission shall be granted for want of caste/category certificate from the competent authority. Further, the caste/category certificate should invariably be in the name of candidate himself/herself and not in favour of respective parents/guardians/spouse or any other family members etc.
      • It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to prove his/her eligibility for claiming reservation under any of the reserved categories/sub-categories. The candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST/OBC/EWS/KM/J&K resident categories/PwD sub-categories will be required to produce original certificate at the time of provisional admission & document verification.
      • The conversion of seats reserved for SC, ST, OBC, EWS etc. to General Category shall be done only if no eligible candidate is available in the merit list of the concerned reserved category. However, while converting the seats, any unfilled seat(s) reserved for ST Category will be offered to SC Category and vice versa and only after that, the conversion of the unfilled reserved category seats to the General Category shall be effected.
      • If the seat reserved for Persons with Disabilities remain unfilled due to non-availability of eligible PwD candidates(s) under respective category, the same shall be offered to the candidates of respective category from which horizontal reservation has been provided.
      • The unfilled seats under Foreign National Category will be carried over to General Category and filled on Merit.
      • A Horizontal reservation of 30% of the total seats shall be filled by eligible women candidates including those selected in reserved and foreign national categories.
      • The University will notify the counselling process for admission at the time of announcement of AILET 2023 result.
      • Candidates who are selected shall be intimated about the selection, immediately by the University through email and by posting the result on the website of the University. The candidates will be given stipulated time for getting admission, failing which, the offer of admission will stand cancelled.
      • The same procedure shall be followed in the case of wait-listed candidates.
    • Test Pattern & Syllabus:
      Conduct of All India Law Entrance Test - 2023
      All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Hons)/LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes at the National Law University, Delhi will be conducted on the Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

      Entrance Test (AILET) Scheme:
      The modified syllabus of AILET 2023 for B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Programme is as follows:
      • The AILET 2023 for B.A.LL.B (Hons.) programme will have three (3) sections of 150 multiple choice questions for 150 marks in total. The duration of the examination is 90 minutes.
      • The three sections will be:
        - Section A: English Language (50 questions; 50 marks).
        - Section B: Current Affairs & General Knowledge (30 questions; 30 marks).
        - Section C: Logical Reasoning (70 questions; 70 marks).
        Legal principles may be used in the logical reasoning section to test logical aptitude but the examination will not require any kind of legal knowledge or technical understanding.
      • Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in AILET 2023. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of 1 Mark.
      • If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), their merit will be determined on the basis of higher marks in the section on LOGICAL REASONING in the AILET 2023.
      • If the merit is still same, then the candidate senior in age shall get preference. If still there is no change in merit, then computerized draw of lots shall be taken into consideration.
    • Fee Structure:

      Foreign Nationals: The annual tuition fee shall be in Indian Rupees equivalent to USD 6,000 (Six Thousand Only) for candidates from SAARC countries and USD 12,000 (Twelve Thousand Only) for candidates from other countries. Other fee will be same as applicable to Indian students.

      Note: The fees/charges are provisional and subject to ratification by the University bodies.

      Hostel Accommodation
      It may be noted that due to paucity of rooms in the hostel, the National Law University, Delhi shall not be able to provide the hostel facilities to the newly admitted students of B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Programme from Delhi/NCR. However, students from outside Delhi/ NCR may be considered for allotment of hostel accommodation subject to availability. Allotment of hostel cannot be claimed as a matter of right.
    • Guidelines for submission of online application form
      The following guidelines may be read by all applicants before filling the application form for Admission to AILET 2023:
      • The candidates are advised to go through the admission notification carefully and acquaint themselves with all requirements in respect to filling up of the Online Application Form.
      • It will be the sole responsibility of the candidate to make sure that he/she is eligible and fulfils all the conditions prescribed for admission in particular programme. The fee paid for application for admission shall not be refundable.
      • Incomplete application form will be summarily rejected and no request will be entertained in this regard.
      • Name of the Candidate: Candidates should type his / her Name as given in Class X or equivalent certificate. If your name has several initials, leave one blank after each of them.
      • Email address/Mobile Number: Candidates should type his/her correct mobile number and email address only which will be used for sending various communications related to AILET 2023.
      • Name of Father / Mother: Type the name of your Father or Mother exactly as in your Class X or equivalent certificate.
      • Date of Birth: Enter the date, month and year of your birth as per English calendar and as recorded in your School / Board (Class - X) / Pre-University examination certificate.
      • Gender: Select the correct option.
      • Category: Select the appropriate option for your categories - SC, ST, OBC, General, EWS, Kashmiri Migrant, J & K Residents, Persons with disabilities and Foreign Nationals. Category certificate to be verified during admission/Counselling process.
      • Centre Choice Details: Select any three centres of your choice in order of preference.
      • Nationality: If your nationality is Indian, chose nationality as INDIAN from the drop down. If your nationality is not Indian, choose FOREIGN from the drop down.
      • Contact and Family Details: Please provide your proper contact and family details in the fields provided.
      • Contact details - Address: Type your complete address including the STATE, DISTRICT, CITY AND PIN CODE. Candidates are required to enter correct Mobile Numbers of parents and email address at which the SMS/communication will be sent.
      • Academic Qualification: Enter your qualifying examinations and fill the requested information. Percentage (%)/ CGPA should be entered manually where appropriate.
      • Photograph & signature of the Candidate:
        (i) The candidate should upload his/her passport size photograph and coloured with white background. Size of image should not be more than 1 MB.
        (ii) Passport size photograph should not have cap, goggles etc. (Spectacles are allowed). The face of the candidate should cover about 75% of the photograph. The photograph must clearly show the face of the candidate in the preview box/page.
        (iii) Image should be .jpg/jpeg/png format.
        (iv) The candidate should also upload his/ her scanned signature. Signature should be clear and without overwriting on white paper sheet within a box 6x3 cms (width*height). Size of image should not be more than 1MB.
        (v) Candidate signature should be clear and without overwriting on a white paper with Black/Blue pen within a box of 6x3cms (width*height) and clearly visible in the preview box/page
        (vi) The scanned signature should be in .jpg/jpeg/png format only.
        (vii) The candidate should keep two identical photographs with him/her, in reserve, which may be used for pasting on the Admit Card at the time of Entrance Test/Counselling/Admission if required.
      • The candidate will be solely responsible for all the consequences arising out of any error or omission in the Application Form.
      • Before submission of online application, candidates are requested to check their details entered in the form. Once you have submitted the online application, you will be able to check the details by clicking VIEW SUBMITTED APPLICATION form option.
        If you have submitted the incorrect details in the form, you can delete the application form and fill it once again and submit the form.
        Please note, in case you have selected option YES to BPL category under the category SC/ST, you will not be able to delete the application form once submitted.
      • Candidate will pay requisite application fee through any DEBIT/CREDIT CARDs/UPI and Net Banking etc. After successful payment of the application fee, an acknowledgement receipt will be generated in the login.
      • Application Number: Once the application form is saved as draft/submitted successfully, an application number is generated.
      • List of documents to be uploaded while filling the application form:
        a.Photograph (Max Size : 1 MB)
        b.Signature (Max Size : 1 MB)
        c.BPL certificate issued by the competitive authority (if you belong to BPL category) (Max Size: 2 MB)

      • Candidate will be required to produce the following documents/certificate in original at the time of admission/counseling process:
        a. In case of B.A.LL.B.(Hons): Marks Statement of Class XII and X.
        b. Latest Character Certificate
        c. Transfer Certificate
        d. Valid SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Persons with Disability/Kashmiri Migrant/Resident of J&K Certificate (wherever applicable)

    + LL.M. [One-Year Programme]

    • Eligibility for Admission:
      • All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO Candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
      • To be eligible to appear for admission to One year- LL.M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability category).
      • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility by such candidates, shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result, and in case such candidate is placed in compartment in year of the admission would be treated as ineligible.
      • Foreign National candidates are exempted from taking the All India Law Entrance Test-2023 (AILET-2023). The other regulations regarding the eligibility for admission will be the same as applicable to the other candidates. The candidates belonging to OCI/PIO category shall have the option to apply either under the Foreign National category or under the category of Indian students. In case the OCI/PIO candidate apply under the category of Indian National, they have to appear in the All Indian Law Entrance Test along with other students. The admission for Foreign Nationals shall be made on the basis of: a) Academic record of LL.B. or equivalent degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with not less than 55% marks or the equivalent grade. b) Assessment of necessary communication skills in written and spoken English and performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
      • Definition of Foreign Nationals: The candidates who possess citizenship of a country other than India and hold a valid passport of Foreign Country.
      • Definition of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO): As notified by the Govt. of India.

      • If the seat reserved for Persons with Disabilities remain unfilled due to non-availability of eligible PwD candidates(s) under respective category, the same shall be offered to the candidates of respective category from which horizontal reservation has been provided.
      • The unfilled seats under Foreign National Category will be carried over to General Category and filled on Merit.
      • A Horizontal reservation of 30% of the total seats shall be filled by eligible women candidates including those selected in reserved and foreign national categories.
      • The University will notify the counselling process for admission at the time of announcement of AILET 2023 result.
      • Candidates who are selected shall be intimated about the selection, immediately by the University through email and by posting the result on the website of the University. The candidates will be given stipulated time for getting admission, failing which, the offer of admission will stand cancelled.
      • The same procedure shall be followed in the case of wait-listed candidates.
    • Test Pattern & Syllabus:
      Conduct of All India Entrance Test - 2023
      All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)/LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes at the National Law University, Delhi shall be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.

      Entrance Test (AILET) Scheme:
      The modified syllabus of AILET 2023 for LL.M. Programme is as follows:
      • The AILET 2023 for LL.M programme will have two (2) sections. Section A will have 50 multiple choice questions and a candidate has to answer two (2) descriptive questions from Section B. The examination will be for 90 minutes.
      • Section A will consist of two parts for total 75 marks:
        - Part 1: English language (25 questions; 1 mark each) (25 marks)
        - Part 2: Legal reasoning (25 questions; 2 marks each) (50 marks)
        Section B will be evaluated only for those candidates who secure at least 50% marks in each of the parts (Part-1 & Part 2) in Section-A.
      • Section B will have ten questions from different branches of law. The candidates will have to answer any two (2) descriptive questions for total of 75 marks.
      • The final rank list will be prepared based on the combined marks secured in Section A and Section B.
      • Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in Section-A in AILET 2023. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of one (1) mark.
      • If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) their merit will be decided as follows:

    • Eligibility for Admission:
      To be admitted to the candidature for a doctoral degree an applicant shall have:
      • A Master's degree in Law or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree in Law by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting, or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
        Or
      • Obtained a degree in Law and Master's Degree in social sciences or humanities from any recognised educational institution Indian or a foreign educational institution accredited as per UGC Regulations, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).
        Provided that candidates with qualifications in social sciences and humanities may be admitted to the programme if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law with a special focus on public policy or law.
        For the above two categories, a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/PwD and other categories of candidates, as per the decisions of the UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
        Or
      • Degree in law and passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute shall be eligible for admission to the programme, if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law.
        Or
      • Degree in law and passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India shall be eligible for admission to the programme, if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law.
        Or
      • Judge of any State High Court in India with three years' experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.
        The Vice-Chancellor may also permit a NLU Delhi faculty member to enrol for the Ph.D. programme along with the teaching assignment of the concerned faculty member in the interest of faculty improvement on the condition that teaching and other responsibilities of the faculty member are not hampered in any way provided such candidates fulfil the conditions prescribed in the Ph.D. Regulations.
      Eligiblity criteria for admission of Foreign Nationals
      • Admission through Open Advertisement
        • A foreign national, who is interested in enrolling for the Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi, may apply in accordance with the admission notifications of NLU Delhi.
        • The candidates shall have sufficient proficiency in English language. Foreign nationals are exempted from the entrance examination conducted by NLUD for Ph.D. enrolment.
        • All other requirements for admission which are applicable to Indian nationals shall be applicable to foreign nationals also. The number of seats available for foreign nationals shall be in accordance with the notifications issued by NLU Delhi from time to time.
        • The unfilled seats under Foreign National Category will be carried over to General Category.
      • Admission of candidates from foreign universities/institutions having MoU with NLU Delhi
        • A foreign national, who is interested in enrolling for the Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi, and is currently enrolled for Ph.D. programme at a foreign university/institution having MoU with NLU Delhi, may be allowed to be registered for Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi subject to the condition that one supervisor will be from NLU Delhi and one from the parent foreign university/institution of the candidate. Such a candidate will be exempted from appearing in the entrance test, subject to the condition that the candidate fulfils the other minimum eligibility conditions.
        • The Vice-Chancellor will be the competent authority to allow registration of such candidates on case-to-case basis, on the recommendations of the Doctoral Committee.
        • The candidate will be required to visit NLU Delhi for Viva-Voce to defend the thesis as per NLU Delhi Ph.D. Regulations.
        • The fee for the programme shall be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the MoU between NLU Delhi and the concerned foreign university/ institute.
        • No separate Ph.D. degree of NLU Delhi will be awarded in such cases. A joint degree may be awarded, if required under the MOU.
      For the purpose of this regulation, a foreign national shall mean a candidate who possess citizenship of a country other than India and holds a valid passport of Foreign Country.
    • Procedure for Admission & Seats
      • Following are the number of seats announced for Ph.D. Programme for the academic year 2023-24:
        • UGC-JRF: 5 seats (The UGC-JRF candidates are exempted from the AILET-2023)
        • Through AILET-9 (5 seats + 4 Fellowships seats)
        • Foreign Nationals: 2 seats
      • The University will follow the reservation policy as per UGC Regulations for admission to Ph.D. Programme.
      • The number of seats may be increased up to 25% for considering the applications of regular faculty members of the NLU Delhi for Ph.D. admission, who are otherwise fulfilling the required eligibility criteria.
      • Admission process- UGC-JRF and Foreign Nationals:
        • The candidates with UGC-JRF and Foreign nationals are exempted from the Entrance Test (AILET-2023).
        • The admission shall be made through evaluation of research proposals followed by interview/ viva-voce. In the final selection of candidates, a weightage of 50 % shall be given to the evaluation of Research Proposal and 50% shall be given to the results of interview/viva-voce.
        • The candidate should also secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/differently abled candidates) in the evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce to qualify for the final selection.
        • The Research Advisory Committee will assist the Doctoral Committee in evaluating the research proposals as per the guidelines prescribed by NLU Delhi.
        • The decision of the Doctoral Committee in recommending the name of the candidates for admission to Ph.D. programme shall be final. The admissions will finally be approved by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendations of the Doctoral Committee.
      • Admission through AILET-9 (5 seats + 4 Fellowships seats)
        • The admission shall be through a two-stage selection process, which includes (1) written entrance test and (2) the evaluation of research proposals followed by interview/ viva-voce. In the final selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% shall be given to the entrance test and 30% shall be given to the results of evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce.
        • 50% of the questions for the entrance test shall be relating to Research Methodology and the remaining 50% shall be from different areas of law. The candidate shall secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/PWD candidates) in the entrance test to qualify for the second stage. Candidates equal to three times the number of available seats will be shortlisted for the second stage, based on the results of the entrance test.
        • The candidate should also secure a minimum of 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/differently abled candidates) in the evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce to qualify for the final selection.
        • The Research Advisory Committee will assist the Doctoral Committee in evaluating the research proposals as per the guidelines prescribed by NLU Delhi.
        • The decision of the Doctoral Committee in recommending the name of the candidates for admission to Ph.D. programme shall be final. The admissions will finally be approved by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendations of the Doctoral Committee.
      NLU Delhi reserves the right to keep the seats vacant if sufficient number of suitable candidates with minimum cut-off marks are not available.
    • Fellowships

      Invitation of Applications for Admission-cum-Fellowship for Ph.D. (Law) / Ph.D. (Regulatory Studies)
    • Categories of Enrollment:
      • Full-time Enrollment
        • Enrolment for the Ph.D. Degree shall ordinarily be full-time. The candidate shall put in a minimum of three-years residence of which at least 18 months shall be in NLU Delhi. During this period, the candidate may be attached to a supervisor and the candidate may assist the supervisor in teaching at NLU Delhi. After this period, a candidate may be permitted to conduct research work outside NLU Delhi. There shall thus be provision for the candidate to earn credits for research work done outside NLU Delhi.
        • Five years shall be the maximum period within which a full time candidate should complete the doctoral research and submit the thesis for evaluation. However, this time is extendable up to one year in two extensions of six months each, in case the candidate requests in writing for such extension. This is subject to the approval of the doctoral committee on recommendation of the Research Advisory Committee.
      • Part-time Enrollment
        • There shall be provision for part-time enrolment for the Ph.D. Degree. A part-time candidate shall put in a minimum of four years of part-time study, and this includes the time spent for research at any other place with the permission of the supervisor.
        • The part-time candidates shall be in residence in NLU Delhi for at least a total period of two semesters spread over the five-year period. However, persons working at senior level such as a Judge in the High Court / Supreme Court, a senior Advocate in Supreme Court and Judicial Officers (with LL.M. degree and ten years experience as Judicial Officer) and IAS/IPS/IRS and allied Services Officer (with LL.M. degree and 10 years experience as IAS/IPS/IRS and allied Services Officer recruited through UPSC) may be exempted from the said residence requirement on the condition that they should complete the certificate course in research methodology within six months after admission.
        • Five years shall be the maximum period in which a part-time candidate shall complete the research work and submit it for evaluation. However, this time is extendable up to one year in two extensions of six months each in case the candidate requests in writing for such extension. This is subject to the approval of the doctoral committee on recommendation of the research advisory committee.
      • Conversion
        • Conversion from either part-time to full-time or from full-time to part-time will be permitted only with the approval of the Doctoral Committee. All cases of pre and post-employment of candidates, including JRF and SRF, will be considered and approved by the Doctoral Committee.
      • Monitoring the research work
        • In cases of both part-time and full-time enrolment, the supervisor of the candidate shall ensure adequate and constant monitoring of the research work done outside the campus by the candidates by insisting on production of adequate proof of work done.
      • Expiry/Lapse of Enrollment
        • Enrolment for the Ph.D. shall be deemed to have lapsed after six years from the date of enrolment in case of both full-time candidates and part-time candidates.
        • The women candidates and differently enabled candidates (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D., for up to 240 days.

      • Before submission of online application, candidates are requested to check their details entered in the form. Once you have submitted the online application, you will be able to check the details by clicking VIEW SUBMITTED APPLICATION form option.
        If you have submitted the incorrect details in the form, you can delete the application form and fill it once again and submit the form.
        Please note, in case you have selected option YES to BPL category under the category SC/ST, you will not be able to delete the application form once submitted.
      • Candidate will pay requisite application fee through any DEBIT/ CREDIT CARDs, /UPI and Net Banking etc. After successful payment of the application fee, an acknowledgement receipt will be generated in the login.
      • Application Number: Once the application form is saved as draft/submitted successfully, an application number is generated.
      • List of documents to be uploaded while filling the application form:
        a.Photograph (Max Size: 1 MB)
        b.Signature (Max Size: 1 MB)
        c.BPL certificate issued by the competitive authority (if you belong to BPL category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
        d.Passport (if you belong to a Foreign National category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
        e.PWD Certificate (if you are claiming a reservation under the PWD Category) (Max Size: 2 MB)
      • Candidate will be required to produce the following documents/certificate in original at the time of admission/counselling process:
        a. Marks Statement of LL.M or any other qualifying examination, B.A.LL.B./LL.B. or equivalent and Class XII & X.
        b. Latest Character Certificate
        c. Transfer Certificate
        d. Valid SC/ST/ Persons with Disability /Certificate (wherever applicable)

    + Test Cities

    AILET-2023 will be conducted at the following cities:
    Bengaluru, Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Goa, Gurugram, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Kota, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Shimla, Siliguri, Silchar, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.

    In case the number of the candidates in any city is less than 100, then a test centre shall not be created in that city and candidates will be allotted a centre as per their 2nd/3rd city preference indicated in the application form.

    + Online Application Fee

    Interested candidates should apply online on payment of application fee of Rs. 3500/-(Rupees Three Thousand Five hundred Only).
    Application fee in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) is Rs. 1500/-(Rupees One thousand Five Hundred Only).
    Below Poverty Line (BPL) applicants of SC/ST category are exempted from application fee.
