The Common Admission Test of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is scheduled to be conducted on 10th, 11th and 12th May 2024 in various centres of the country.

Admission to all Under Graduate & Post Graduate programmes are through the Common Admission Test (CAT 2024).

Ph.D., PDF & Diploma programmes, apply through concerned departments.
COMMON ADMISSION TEST-2024 (CAT 2024)
  • Admission to UG/PG Programmes
    • The candidates who seek admissions to UG/PG programmes in CUSAT should apply for CAT through this portal. Applications in any other method will not be accepted.
    • MBA Applicants:
      • Candidates need to register for CUSAT CAT-2024 through this portal and complete the application process.
      • Candidates with a valid KMAT/CMAT/CAT(IIM)Score can apply for MBA programmes. These candidates will be ranked on the basis of KMAT/CMAT/CAT(IIM) Score, Group Discussion and Interview.
      • Candidates, without valid score for the time being can register now and they will be provided the opportunity to enter the valid score of KMAT & CMAT before the closure of the application for the MBA program of SMS, CUSAT.
    • B.Tech0 Marine Engineering Applicant:
      • Students who wish to get admission for BTech Marine Engineering at KMSME in CUSAT, should register for CAT 2024, select Programme B.Tech and complete the center selection step also.
      • The applicants need to appear for the Common Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU) and the admission shall be based on the IMU rank. For more details click here.
    • M.Tech. Applicant:
      • Preference will be given to candidates with valid GATE score in the respective subject. In the absence of candidates with valid GATE score
      • Candidates without GATE score will be admitted on the basis of their performance in Department Admission Test (DAT) to be conducted by the Departments concerned.
  • Admission to Ph.D./PDF/Diploma Programmes

    + Application and Admission formalities

    • The Prospectus for admission to professional and non-professional programmes conducted by Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi - 22 for the year 2024, as per notification No.CUSAT/IRAA.A3/21777/Notfn./CAT2020 dated 25/01/2024, approved by the University is published herewith. This prospectus provides the vital information regarding the Common Admission Test - 2024 and allied admission procedures for the year 2024. Candidates are required to read this prospectus carefully so as to make them fully aware of the rules/procedures related to Application / Test / Option Registration / Allotment and all other matters pertaining to Academic Admission 2024. Candidates are also required to visit the University website https://admissions.cusat.ac.in regularly so as to update themselves with latest notifications, notices, announcements, instructions etc. published in the admission website.In addition to this, registered candidates must login to their home page on a daily basis and comply with directions given therein without fail.
    • This version of the prospectus in English language only shall be considered as authentic in the case of any dispute.
    • This prospectus sets out the rules and regulations for CAT 2024 and all other procedures related to Admissions 2024.
    • This prospectus pertains to admissions to the academic programmes conducted at the following three campuses of the University:
      • Main Campus situated at Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Kochi-22 (Referred to as Campus 1)
      • Kuttanadu Campus (CUCEK) situated at Pulincunnoo, Alappuzha District (80 KM away from Campus 1) (Referred to as Campus 2)
      • Lakeside Campus situated on the banks of Cochin Estuary and adjacent to Fine Arts Hall, Kochi - 16 (12 KM away from Campus 1) (Referred to as Lakeside Campus)
    • In addition to the programmes conducted at the campuses listed under clause 4, this prospectus also includes PhD programmes offered in the approved Departments / Schools / Centres of the University and at various research institutions recognized by CUSAT across Kerala.
    • This Prospectus is subject to modification / addition / deletion, as may be deemed necessary by Cochin University of Science and Technology from time to time.

    + APPLICATION FEES for various categories of seats/applicants

    • For candidates opting State Merit /All India Quota seats (other than NRI/ International / PIO / Children of Indian Gulf Workers) application fee to appear for a maximum of two test codes is Rs. 1200 (Rupees One Thousand Two hundred only) and for Kerala SC/ Kerala ST candidates to appear for a maximum of two test codes is Rs. 600/- (Rupees Six Hundred only) (regarding ‘Test Codes’ please refer to Chapter 10). For each additional test code Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) for general candidates and Rs. 250/- for KSC/KST candidates. Candidates applying for multiple M.Tech. and MBA programmes need to pay the application fees as given above and need not pay any additional Tests fees, as there is no CAT for these programmes.
    • For seats reserved for International Candidates/PIO: US $ 110 (One Hundred and Ten US Dollars only)(Rs. 9100/- for ICCR scholars).
    • For candidates belonging to Children of Indian Gulf Workers (CGW) category: To appear for a maximum of two test codes is Rs. 6200/- (Rupees Six Thousand Two Hundred only). In the case of CGW candidates belonging to KSC/KST to appear for a maximum of two test codes application fee will be Rs. 5600/- (Rupees Five Thousand Six Hundred Only). For each additional test code Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) for general candidates and Rs. 250/- for KSC/KST candidates.
    • For candidates (except CGW candidates) opting for NRI Seats (as per clause 7): additional Rs. 5,000 (Rupees Five Thousand only) has to be paid in addition to the fees specified under clause 1. CGW candidates who wish to apply under NRI category need not pay any additional amount.
    • For PhD Programmes: Rs. 1200/- (Rupees One thousand one hundred only) for all category of applicants except Kerala SC / Kerala ST and Rs. 600 (Rupees Five hundred only) for Kerala SC/ST Candidates to be remitted by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam and to be submitted to the respective Departments/Schools where the candidate intends to apply for PhD Programme to obtain the Application Forms.
    • For Postdoctoral Fellowships, Diploma and Certificate Programmes:Rs. 150/- (Rupees One Hundred and Fifty only) and Rs. 50/- (Rupees fifty only) for Kerala SC/ST Candidates is to be remitted by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, CUSAT payable at Ernakulam and the DD is to be submitted to the respective Departments/Schools where the candidate intends to apply for the Programme to obtain the Application Forms.
    • NRI Seats: Any Indian Citizen/OCI card holder is eligible to apply for NRI seats. NRI status is not compulsory to apply for seats under this category but the candidates should submit a ‘Declaration’ in the format given in the Annexure I at the time of their admission. Candidates who wish to apply for NRI seats must opt for the same at the time of online application itself and should pay the additional application fee of Rs. 5000/.In addition to this, they have to opt for the NRI seats as one of their choice at the time of selecting the preference of programmes/seats (Also see Clause 16.5). Candidates who do not opt for NRI category at the time of online application will not be considered for allotment to NRI seats and this status cannot be modified/corrected at any later stage. However, any candidate in the rank list is eligible to participate in the NRI Spot Admission, if NRI seats are available/ vacant after allotments subject to the submission of the declaration given in Annexure I. Check the NRI seat availability for the programme you wish to apply for.
    • Application fee once remitted is not refundable under any circumstances.
    • The applicants for seats reserved for International candidates FN/PIO/OCI are required to submit their application online through the web site https://admissions.cusat.ac.in and after successful submission of their application they shall forward a copy of the confirmation page to The Director, Office of International Relations, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi– 682022, Kerala, India along with Demand Draft / Pay Order / any other instrument (which does not involve any collection charges on the part of University) for US $ 110 (One Hundred and ten US Dollars only) in favour of The Registrar, CUSAT, payable at Ernakulam. In the case of foreign citizens, the confirmation page along with copies of the required certificates shall be routed either through the Embassy of India in their respective country or through their respective Embassy in India.
    • Candidates applying for various programmes must make sure that they fulfill minimum eligibility criteria prescribed under relevant Chapters of this Prospectus before filling up online application. The candidate alone shall be responsible for uploading correct information in the online application.

    + Minimum basic requirements and eligibility to apply for each programme

    • Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination, unless specified otherwise.
    • SEBC candidates of Kerala State who are certified as belonging to non-creamy layer are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination unless specified otherwise, provided that the candidates have passed the qualifying examination.
    • For admission to M.Tech. programmes Candidates with a valid GATE score in the specified subject are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination unless specified otherwise, provided that the candidates have passed the qualifying examination.
    • Programmes offered in the academic year 2024 with eligibility criteria and compulsory Test/Scores are detailed in this prospectus.
    • Undergraduate Programmes: All undergraduate programmes, except Three Year LL.B. programme and B.Tech. Lateral Entry, are designed for students who have completed their 12th Grade (Plus Two) with required eligibility conditions. Only graduates with prescribed eligibility conditions can apply for Three year LL.B programme and Diploma holders with prescribed eligibility conditions can apply for B.Tech. Lateral Entry programmes.
    • For Undergraduate programmes: Five marks relaxation is granted to the cutoff marks in Higher Secondary examination marks for admission to UG programmes of the University to those who have participated in Scouts, Guides, Rover, Ranger and earned “Rajyapuraskkar”, Nanmudra Certificate” during Higher Secondary level.
    • The eligibility criteria for admission to various programmes, in case of candidates with disabilities, in the University, is at par with that of SC/ST candidates, for each programmes including the cut off marks/score, age etc.

    + Eligibility / Minimum required qualification

    Five Year BBA LLB (H)
    • At the time of admission the candidate should have passed plus two examination with at least 60% marks including languages in Science group/Commerce group or with at least 55% marks including languages in Arts/Humanities stream.
    • Candidates belonging to SC/ST communities or belonging to SEBC communities with a pass in the plus two examination with 50% percent marks are entitled to seek admission.
    Five Year Bcom LLB (H)
    • At the time of admission the candidate should have passed plus two examination with at least 60% marks including languages in Science group/Commerce group or with at least 55% marks including languages in Arts/Humanities stream.
    • Candidates belonging to SC/ST communities or belonging to SEBC communities with a pass in the plus two examination with 50% percent marks are entitled to seek admission.
    Five year B.Sc.Computer Science, LLB (Honours)
    A candidate should have passed the plus two (12th) examinations with 50% marks in Mathematics or Computer Science as one of the subjects at the time of admission. The candidate should also have secured a minimum of sixty-five percentage (65%) in the plus two examinations, if they belong to the general category. The relaxation in pass percentage marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST /SEBC communities will be decided by CUSAT through its orders from time to time.
    B.Tech Lateral Entry
    • Any three-year Diploma in Engineering / Technology awarded by a Board of Technical Education recognised by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Kerala, with not less than 60% marks. The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July of the current academic year.
    • Students with DPT (Diploma in Plastic Technology) and DPMT (Diploma Plastic Mould Technology) of CIPET are accepted through Lateral Entry to B.Tech Polymer Science and Engineering.
    • 3 year Diploma in Plastic Technology and Diploma in Plastic Mould Technology offered by CIPET is included in the eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Tech Lateral Entry in B.Tech Mechanical Engineering.
    • The Minimum qualification required for the B LET – B Tech Lateral Entry programme in Instrumentation and Control Engineering : 3 years diploma in Instrumentation or Electronics awarded by a board recognized by the department of technical education, Govt. of Kerala, with not less than 60% marks. Maximum age limit will be 25 years as on 1st July of the academic year.
    • Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying, if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.
    • SEBC candidates of Kerala State belonging to non-creamy layer category are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for the qualifying examination.
    BTech Civil Engineering
    • Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects securing a separate minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
    • Candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying, if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.
    • SEBC candidates of Kerala State belonging to non-creamy layer category are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for the qualifying examination.
    BTech Civil Engineering
    • Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects securing a separate minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

    M.Tech programme in Geotechnical Engineering
    a) Shall have passed B Tech/B.E/B.Sc. Engineering Degree Examination in Civil Engineering branch with a minimum 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an examination of any other University /Institution accepted by this University as equivalent thereto.
    b) The Candidates who have passed Sections A and B examinations conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India) – AMIE in Civil branch shall be eligible.
    c) A valid GATE Score.
    d) In the absence of sufficient number of candidates with GATE score, candidates without GATE score shall also be considered subject to passing a Departmental Admission Test.
    M.Tech Civil Engg (Constru. Engg & Mngt - Part Time)
    • (a)Shall have passed BTech/Bsc Engg/BE Degree examination in the respective branch witha minimum of 50% marks from any university in Kerala or an examination of any other University/Institution accepted by this University as equivaleny thereto. (b)Candidates who have passed BTech/Bsc Engg/BE Degree examination in allied branches of Engineering/Technology with minimum of 50% marks may also be considered in the absence of suffficient number of candidates for the course. The suitability of such candidates may be assessed by an admission committee constituted by the Head of the Department/School. (c)Candidates who have passed sections A and B of the Associate Membership / Graduate Membership Examinations in respective branches conducted by Institution of Engineers (India), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers with a minimum of 50mpercent marks asre also eligible for admission if they have an Engineering Diploma or a basic degree in Science.
    • Should have minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the concerned field after acquiring the qualifying degree. This may be relaxed if sufficient number of candidates with the minimum prescribed experience is not available.
    • Admission Procedure : Admission will be based on the rank list prapared by giving due weightage to qualifying degree marks (50%), admission test conducted by Department (40%), and number of years of experience after obtaining the degree (weightage at the rate of 1% per year of experience subject to a maximum of 10%).
    M.Tech programme in Structural Engineering
    a) i) Shall have passed B Tech/B.E/B.Sc. Engineering Degree Examination in Civil Engineering branch with a minimum 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an examination of any other University /Institution accepted by this University as equivalent thereto.
    ii) The Candidates who have passed with a minimum 60% marks Sections A and B examinations conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India) – AMIE in Civil branch shall be eligible.
    b) A valid GATE Score.
    c) In the absence of sufficient number of candidates with GATE score, candidates without GATE score shall also be considered subject to passing a Departmental Admission Test.
    M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering with Specialization in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence
    • B Tech/BE/AMIE/AMIETE Degree in Computer Science & Engineering/ Information Technology / Electronics and Communication / Electrical and Electronics /Biomedical Instrumentation/ MCA /Post Graduate Degree in Maths / Physics / Statistics / Computer Science / Electronics with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale or equivalent) or 60% marks in the absence of CGPA grading, from any recognized University or Institution.
    • A valid GATE Score in qualifying branch.
    • In the absence of GATE qualified candidates Non Gate candidates can be admitted on the basis of a Departmental Admission Test (DAT) using GATE Computer Science Syllabus conducted by the Department / School.
    M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering(Data Science and Artificial Intelligence- Part Time)

    • In the absence of GATE qualified candidates, Non GATE candidates can be admitted on the basis of Departmental Admission Test (DAT) conducted by Department/School.
    M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in Cyber Security
    Shall have passed B.Tech or equivalent degree in Computer Science and Engineering or Electronics and communication or Information Technology branch or MCA, with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in 10-point scale from any recognised University in Kerala or any other University/Institution accepted by this University as equivalent there to.

    M.Tech in Data Science and Analytics

    A valid GATE score in the concerned branch of study.
    If sufficient number of candidates with GATE score in concerned branch of study are not available, candidates with GATE score in Instrumentation will be considered. If sufficient number of GATE score holders are not available a pass in Departmental Admission Test is sufficient.
    M.Tech in Industrial Safety (Health Safety and Environment Management)
    B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc. Engg. Degree awarded by AICTE/UGC approved Universities and Institutes/ Institutes of National Importance like IITs, NITs and IIEST in any branch of Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA .

    A valid GATE score.

    In the absence of sufficient number of candidates with GATE score, candidates without GATE score shall also be considered based on their performance in the Departmental Admission Test (DAT).
    M.Tech Instrumentation Technology
    B Tech or equivalent degree in Instrumentation/ Instrumentation Technology / Instrumentation and Control/ Applied Electronics and Instrumentation/ Electronics and Instrumentation/ Electronics and Communication/ Electrical and Electronics or MSc Degree in Instrumentation/ Electronics with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 in 10 point scale from any recognized University or Institution.

    A valid GATE score (in the concerned branch of study) or pass in Departmental Admission Test if sufficient number of GATE score holders are not available.

    For sponsored candidates, in addition to the above two conditions, 3 years teaching/research experience in Govt/Quasi Govt. institutions or 3 years experience in the Public Sector Units/ Public Ltd companies.
    M.Tech. (Marine Biotechnology)
    The candidates having minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (under grading system) from any recognized university in B.Tech. or BE in Biotechnology/M.Sc. in any branch of Life Science including Marine Biology along with a valid GAT-B Score in the examination conducted in the current year.
    M.Tech Mechanical Engg (Thermal Engg)
    Shall have passed B Tech/B.E/ B.Sc. Engineering Degree Examination in Mechanical, Automobile, Aerospace, Aeronautical branch with a minimum of 60% marks from any University in Kerala or an examination of any other University /Institution accepted by this University as equivalent hitherto, candidates who have passed sections A and B examinations conducted by the Institution of Engineers (India) , AMIE or similar equivalent examinations in the branches mentioned above with a minimum of 60% of marks shall also be eligible and
