A student whose mark-sheet/grade-card does NOT mention marks obtained, and only shows grades, must submit an equivalent certificate/formula from the concerned University to convert grades to percentage marks at the time of documents verification. Failure to do so will lead to cancellation of her/his application.

The University shall not be liable for any implication (be responsible in any way) in case any of the information submitted by the applicant is found to be erroneous and incorrect. His/her application / counseling / admission may be terminated in such cases.

    + Eligibility Criteria

    IMPORTANT:
    • Candidates who have completed results of Masters Course or equivalent in the relevant subject (as specified under B below) and fulfill the eligibility conditions laid down in A below may apply for admission to M.Phil Course for the academic session 2020-21.
    • If at the verification of documents, it is found by the university authority that
      • a student does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, s/he will not be considered for admission, even if he/she is provisionally selected for admission.
      • a student does not have completed result at the time of application, s/he will not be considered for admission, even if he/she is provisionally selected for admission.
      • a student had entered incorrect marks in his/her on-line application form, then his/her merit position shall be revised accordingly. In case of entering marks more than what he/she has actually obtained (as in his/her mark-sheets), he/she may be denied admission.
    • Even if a student’s marks in any particular examination at Master’s level increases after review of his/her result for that examination by the concerned Institute/University after the last date of submission of online application such additional marks shall not be considered thereafter and at the time of counselling/admission, and his/her rank position in the provisional merit shall not be changed.
    For PD Category:
    • Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under RPD Act, 2016.
    For SC/ST Category:
    • As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.

      Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.
    For OBC-A/OBC-B Category:
    • A candidate applying for seat reserved for the OBC-A/OBC-B category (wherever applicable) must produce an OBC certificate (the issue date of which should not be earlier than December 2019) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) he/she belongs to; (ii) that he/she does not belong to creamy layer of the society.

      OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.

      Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.
    Anti-Ragging:
    • Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus.
    • If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.

    Eligibility Conditions
    • A: Minimum Marks
      Category Minimum marks required in the Master Degree or equivalent in the subject noted in B
      General at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale
      SC / ST / PD / OBC-A / OBC-B at least 50% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade
      Candidates who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19 th September, 1991 at least 50% or its equivalent grade
    • B: Relevant Subjects
      M.Phil. Course in Relevant subjects
      Bengali M.A. in Bengali or Comparative Literature
      English M.A. in English or Comparative Literature
      Philosophy, History, Sociology M.A. in the subject
      Economics M.A. / M.Sc. in Economics or M.S. in Quantitative Economics
      Comparative Literature M.A. in any subject
      International Relations M.A. in International Relations or Political Science
      Sanskrit M.A. in Sanskrit or Comparative Literature with Sanskrit as
      one of the pass subjects carrying at least 300 marks at the
      undergraduate level
      Education M.A. in Education or M.Ed.
      Library & Information Science M.L.I.Sc. / M.L.I.Sc. (Digital Library) / M.S. in Library and
      Information Science

    + Selection Procedure

    For All Courses Selection of candidates will be made in order of merit, ascertained on the basis of 70% weightage on marks obtained in an online admission test* and 30% weightage on marks obtained in an online interview.
    * Candidates under General category must secure at least 50% marks in the admission test for consideration in the online interview list.

    Duration of the examination: Two hours (two and a half hours for Economics only).

    General Instructions for Online Admission Test
    For Sanskrit and Philosophy
    • The admission test will be conducted through Google Forms.
    • The Google Forms link will be published 10 minutes before the commencement of the admission test on the university website.
    • Application Number should be written in the proper place on the Google Form.
    For All Other Courses
    • Question paper will be published 30 minutes before the commencement of the admission test on the university website.
    • All answers should be handwritten in A4 size white paper in black or dark blue ink.
    • Application Number should be written on every page (along with page number).
    • After the examination, answer-scripts must be scanned and saved in .jpeg or .jpg or .pdf format in one single file.
    • The scanned copy of the answer-script must be sent to the e-mail address given on the question paper within 30 minutes of completion of the admission test.
    • Visually impaired students may send a voice recording in any commonly available format as per Ministry of Education Guidelines to the e-mail address given on the question paper within 30 minutes of completion of the admission test.
    Note: If an applicant provides the wrong Application Number in their answer-sheet, his/her answer-sheet will be cancelled.
