Eligibility for Admission to the Honours Courses (Ref. WBSU / Reg / UG / Admission Regulation / 1164 / 15-16 dated 08.05.2015)

  • Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils or State Boards/Councils including Open Schools. However Vocational Examination conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall NOT be eligible to seek admission to the B.A (Hons.)/ B. Sc (Hons.)
  • Minimum Essential Conditions (as prescribed by West Bengal State University) for taking up Honours Course: (a) Minimum 50% marks in Aggregate (Best of Four) and 45% in Subject/related subject at the previous qualifying examination OR (b) 55% marks in the Subject/related subject OR (c) 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination
  • However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate and 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
  • No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Studies after passing the previous qualifying examination.
  • The date and time for the online application procedure will be announced through the College website www.bidhannagarcollege.org and the college notice board.
  • A candidate may apply for admission to a maximum of three different Honours courses of his/her choice.
  • For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours or Major Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks of top four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject “Environmental Science” is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
  • The names of the candidates provisionally selected for admission will be notified on the college notice board and College website. Individual intimation is not given to any candidate.
  • The MERIT LIST of all duly paid Applicants displayed is purely provisional and is subject to change on verification of documents in the original. The College Authority entertains no claims for admission in case of delay or absence in Counseling Process made or caused by any Applicant himself/ herself. All must of necessity follow the admission schedule of date, time and venue. Claim to admission shall be forfeited if admission is not taken within the fixed hours of the specified date.
  • Reservation of Seats: Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes/OBC-A/OBC-B/Physically handicapped Candidates are admitted according to merit in the seats reserved for them as per government orders issued on the subject from time to time.
  • Admission is granted only to deserving students strictly on the basis of merit. Students of the college seeking readmission for some reasons to their earlier Honours subject need not go through the online application procedure. They, however, cannot claim re-admission as a matter of right.
  • Change of course/subject may be allowed within the stipulated period as specified by the University. All admissions are PROVISIONAL until confirmed by the University. Admission of any candidate if found to be in contravention of the University regulations and restrictions, or in contravention of any rule framed by the College authorities, even though detected afterwards, shall be cancelled without reference.
  • A student failing to qualify for Honours but qualifying for General course in the University examination may not be allowed to continue studies in purely General course in this college.
  • Principal’s decision is final in all cases of admission.
