Admissions to B.A. / B.Sc. / Commerce Honours & General Courses for 2013-2014


The College has 19 Honours departments in the day section which offer 11 courses in Humanities and 7 courses in Science streams and a course in Accountancy Honours in Commerce stream. General Courses in B.Sc. and B.Com. are offered in day section and General Course in B.A. is offered in morning section only.

Important Informations

  • Application for admission does not guarantee enlistment. Only VALID applications will be considered.
  • Candidates who have passed H.S. or its equivalent examination in 2011, 2012 and 2013 are eligible for application.
  • As per the norms of the University of Burdwan, the candidates who have passed the (10+2) final examination conducted by NOS / IGNOU / ICSE / CESE / CBSE / RABINDRA MUKTA VIDYLAYA / NETAJI SUBHAS OPEN UNIVERSITY with at least five subjects (excluding Compulsory Environmental Studies) of 100 marks each including at least one language subject either English or Bengali and three conventional subjects may be considered for admission in the 1st year class if otherwise eligible.
  • Students passing (10+2) level with vocational Engineering and Technology/ Vocational Agriculture/ Vocational Business and Commerce for admission to B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Com Course in this college for the session 2013-2014 are asked to meet the College authority for their Application Form.

  • Cut-off marks :
    • For B.A. General Course :
      All Categories : Passed in at least five subjects of 100 marks each (excluding compulsory Environmental Studies) in the qualifying examination..
    • For B.Sc. General Course (Physical Science) : Passed in at least five subjects of 100 marks each (excluding compulsory Environmental Studies) in the qualifying examination in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
    • For B.Sc. General Course (Biological Science) : Passed in at least five subjects of 100 marks each (excluding compulsory Environmental Studies) in the qualifying examination with Biology and Chemistry as subjects.
    • For B.Com. General Course : Passed in at least five subjects of 100 marks each (excluding compulsory Environmental Studies) in the qualifying examination in the Commerce or Science stream (with Accountancy or Mathematics respectively).
  • Calculation of Aggregate
    • For H.S. and boards with two compulsory languages :
      AGGREGATE = total of marks in First Language, Second Language and best three out of the remaining conventional subjects (excluding Compulsory Environmental Studies).
    • For Boards without compulsory second language :
      AGGREGATE = total marks in English and best four out of the remaining conventional subjects (excluding Compulsory Environmental Studies).
    • 10% and 5% of the Aggregate would be deducted in case of the candidates passing in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
  • The applicants can apply for as general course(s) as they want, provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria in the concern course.
  • An application fee of Rs 30.00 (Rs. Thirty only) in cash is to be deposited in the college for each application, failing which the application will be considered invalid.
  • Subject combination offered :
    An applicant is required to take Compulsory Bengali / Compulsory French / Alternative English and Compulsory English for Part I examination and Environmental Studies (Field work/project and theory) for the Part III examination.
    • Combination subjects offered in B.A. General Courses :
      • Candidates have to choose One Elective Subject from each of the following groups.
        ** Group – A: Bengali / English
            Group – B: History / Political Science
            Group – C: Sanskrit / Philosophy
      • ** Only 150 Candidates will be Offered Elective Bengali in order of Merit. The rest will have to take Elective English.
    • Combination subjects for B.Sc. General Courses :
      • Physical Science : Physics, Chemist & Mathematics
      • Biological Science : Zoology, Botany and Chemistry
    • Combination of subject for B.Com. General Course :
      • Part 1 - Gr. I
      • Part 2 - Gr. II & Gr. III
      • Part 3 - Gr. IV
  • Formulation for Merit Marks :
    • For GENERAL COURSES : MERIT MARKS = AGGREGATE
    NOTE : FOR CALCULATION OF AGGREGATE PLEASE REFER TO SECTION 7 ABOVE
  • The Merit lists will be prepared in the descending order of Merit Marks. In case of a tie, precedence will be given to higher subject marks, wherever applicable.
  • Reservation of seats for S.C./S.T./Physically Challenged candidates will be as per the existing rules of the of West Bengal. A certificate from the competent authority must be produced at the time of admission, if selected. No applicant will be allowed to take advantage of more than one quota of reservation. Candidates having S. C./S. T. Certificate issued by States other than West Bengal will be treated as General Category for admission.
