Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in the Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture from candidates willing to pursue research work leading to Ph.D. degree in Ancient Indian History and Culture, University of Calcutta. The relevant information are provided below :

• No of Seats : 14 (Reservation policy will be followed as per West Bengal Higher Educational Institute (Reservations in Admission) Rules 2013).
• Date of Admission Test : 11the August, 2015.
• Last Date of submission of Application Forms : 7th August, 2015.
• Time of Admission Test : 12:00 Noon - 2:00 P.M.
• Venue : Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture.
• Publication of Rwsults : To be notified later in the Departmental Notice Board.
• Date and Time of Interview : 7th September, 2015 at 11:00 A.M.
• Syllabus for Admission Test :
  • Ancient Indian Historiography
  • Approaches to the Study of Early Indian History
  • Issues and Debates in Early Indian History and
  • Comprehension of any given textual material.
• Tentative date of commencement of Ph.D. Course Work : November - December 2015.

Candidates qualified in the NET, SET or equivalent Examinations as well as candidates having an M.Phil. degree are exempted from the written examination but are required to appear at the interview. They will have to submit their research proposals (within 1000 words) by 25th August, 2015. Those who will qualify in the written examination will have also to appear at the interview and submit their research proposals (within 1000 words) on 31st August, 2015 at the office of the Department.

All in-service applicants have to submit their No Objection Certificates (NOC) from the concerned employer before enrolment.
