Interested candidates (including those working in various projects under departmental faculties but yet to register for Ph.D.) having degree in Bachelor of Technology (subject to provision of 6.4 of Ph.D. regulation,2016) or Engineering (any stream) or Master of Science (any stream) without NET/GATE/M.Phil.) or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body of this University, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country, or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing ,accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions (subject to provision of 3.1 of Ph.D. regulation,2016) [A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures,( subject to provision of 3.2 of Ph.D. regulation,2016)] are invited to appear for a written examination of Ph.D. entrance test to be held on Friday, 21/06/2019, at 2:00 P.M. in the department of Polymer Science and Technology, 92, A. P. C. Road, Kolkata-700009, Venue of the PET: 2nd year B.Tech. classroom of the department (in 2nd floor of Applied chemistry building). The written test of PET will be of 50 marks in MCQ format of 1 hour duration. The qualifying marks for Entrance Test will be 50%. The names of the successful candidates will be displayed on 24.06.2019 at 3:00 P.M. on the notice board at first floor beside the room of the HOD. Successful candidates will have to appear for an interview in the room of the head of the department at 3:00 P.M. on 26/06/2019. Candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examinations/NET/SET/SLET/GATE or have obtained DST INSPIRE Fellowship/Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil./M.Tech/M.D/M.E/ M.Pharm or equivalent examination (subject to provision of 5.1 of Ph.D. regulation,2016) shall not be required to appear at the Ph.D. entrance test on 21/06/2019 and they may directly appear for the interview of the PET on 26/06/2019. Successful candidates (in written test and/or interview of PET) will be eligible to register for their Ph.D. in the Department of Polymer Science and Technology. Filled-in application form (may be downloaded from the university webpage http://caluniv.ac.in/phd_Dlit/application_frame.htm) along with Rupees 100/- paid through a challan (obtainable from sales counter, Rajabazar Science College campus, 92, A. P. C. Road, Kolkata-700009) may be sent to the Head of the Department, Department of Polymer Science and Technology, UCSTA, University of Calcutta, 92, A. P. C. Road, Kolkata-700009 and it should reach the Department by 19/06/2019. No TA/DA shall be paid to the candidates appearing in written test or subsequent interview of PET. Research interest and area of work of individual faculties may be seen from the departmental website (www.caluniv.ac.in). The reservation of SC/ST/OBC etc. will be applicable as per the rules of West Bengal higher education institutions (reservation in admission) rules, 2013.
