    + Eligibility for Admission to M.A., M.Com., M.Sc. Courses

    • Three years Honours graduate of the current and previous 2 years i.e. not before 2016 in the system (10+2+3) from WBSU.
    • Honours graduates from recognized Universities in West Bengal of the current and previous two years are eligible for admission. For students from other states, the student should have passed equivalent course as at (1) from UGC recognized University/Institute.
    • Candidates passing Honours/Major course in Arts in Under Graduate Degree level from Indira Gandhi National Open University/Netaji Subhas Open University and the Distance Education Programmes of other Universities in West Bengal are also eligible for admission.
    • Each candidate should apply in a separate single application form for applying more than one subject, if any.
    • Application Form to be submitted online.
    • Modalities of Admission
      After online submission of the application, the copy of the application is to be downloaded and printed copy of the downloaded application along with relevant supporting documents self-attested by the candidate are to be preserved and submitted to the P.G. Section of WBSU and the documentary evidence of the payment of Application Fee (e-receipt) must be attached with the hard copy of the application for admission if selected. (See Clause VIII).
    • Admission will be taken between 11-30 A.M. and 3-00 P.M. on all working days as per notification displayed in WBSU Notice Board and website from time to time.
    • Mode of Payment : Application Fee Rs. 400/- (for General and other candidates) and Rs. 200/- (for SC/ST/PWD candidate) for an application. Candidates may use the payment facility on Multi Option Payment System (MOPS) eg.,
      (i) Internet Banking of all Banks
      (ii) ATM-cum-Debit/Credit Card of all Banks
      (iii) By Cash/Cheque at SBI Branches by using challan. For State Bank collect system additional commission for bank transaction to be borne by the candidate. Copy of the fee deposition slip (e-receipt) is to be attached with the printed copy of the application.
      (iv) Through gateway Debit / Credit Card / Multi bank Internet banking/digital wallets.
    • Mark-sheets in original (Part I, Part II & Part III) should be shown during the admission if selected.
    • Self-attested copies of mark-sheets (Part I, Part II & Part III) and other testimonials should be attached with the application form.
    • SC/ST candidates should write “SC/ST candidate” on the top of the application form and they must attach self-attested Xerox copy of SC/ST certificate from the office of the S.D.O.
    • Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates must mention the words “PWD” on the top of the application form and must attach a certificate from the Competent Authority.
    • OBC-A or OBC-B candidates should write “OBC-A” or “OBC-B” on the top of the application form and they must attach self-attested Xerox copy of OBC certificate issued by the Office of the S.D.O.
    • List of the selected candidates will be displayed on the Notice Board at the P.G. Section, WBSU and also on University website.
    • No personal communication will be made with the selected candidates.
    • Selection will be made strictly in order of merit on the basis of percentage of marks for 60% of seats for WBSU students and rest 40% of seats on the basis of subjectwise Entrance Test for Other University students and home university students including back years (Passed in 2016, 2017) students. Under the category of 40% of seats, the students will be admitted on the basis of an MCQ test on OMR sheet either with 50 questions each carrying 2 marks or adhering to the standardized format of MCQ test of the university, whichever is applicable; [negative marks & cut off marks will be applicable, if necessary. Distribution of marks : For each correct answer 2 marks, for wrong answer minus 0.5 marks and not attempted 0 mark will be awarded]. Or, may be filled according to marks for some departments, if the sufficient number of applications have not been received.
    • Preference, if any, once exercised can not be changed. And declaration regarding SC/ST/PWD/OBC-A/OBC-B/General once given can not be altered.
    • For admission to different courses, a SC or ST candidate getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the general category. In case of OBC-A and OBC-B the candidates getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 10% from the marks obtained by the last candidate of the general category.
    • Domicile Certificate : (See Website: www.wbsubregistration.gov). Essential for reservation of seats (SC/ST/OBC of other states)
    In any case, if a candidate obtains marks lower than the minimum qualifying marks prescribed by the University/Appropriate Authority for admission to the relevant course, he/she will not be eligible for admission.

M.Phil. / Ph.D. Courses

M.Phil. (2 yrs duration)
The University is offering M.Phil. / Ph.D. courses in various Departments. Admission to the M.Phil. / Ph.D. is through an entrance examination (RET) for each discipline followed by a viva-voce. Candidates with NET/SET/GATE/M.Phil. qualifications are exempted from the Admission Test. University is conducting Admission Test for the Ph.D. programme after issuing appropriate notification. The number of students to be admitted into the Ph.D. programme in a subject or an interdisciplinary field in a year is decided by the respective Board of Research Studies. National and State-level reservation policies will be followed in the matter of admission into the Ph.D. programme. Students admitted the Ph.D. programme shall undertake course work for a period of one semester to be eligible for Registration into Ph.D. course. On successful completion of the entire programme as per Ph.D. regulations the degree of Doctor of Philosophy shall be awarded to a candidate on the basis of original research work resulting in a significant advancement of knowledge.
