Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) will be conducting the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET 2023- Second Round) in an online mode this year.

Candidates with NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil. or are UGC/CSIR/ICMR DBT/RGNF/MANF/DST Inspire & NBHM Fellows, are exempted from the entrance test during the validity period of the certificate/award. However, such candidates have to mandatorily appear for the personal interview. The personal interactions will also be conducted through video conferencing mode.

    + Ph.D. Programme

    Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) offers research programmes leading to the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the following Faculty of Studies:
    • Faculty of Management
    • Faculty of Computer Studies
    • Faculty of Engineering
    1. SIU offers doctoral programme in faculty of studies mentioned above and variety of sub-streams mentioned in the subsequent tabs. There are no programmes in Languages/ Literature, Psychology, Sociology, History, etc.
    2. SIU offers both Full Time/ Part Time Programmes ( Ph D Cannot be offered in distance education mode).
    3. PG degree is needed with 55 % marks must. PG Diploma of IIMs, XLRI are eligible, CA/CS with 55 % marks are eligible. Those who are holding PG diplomas from other institutions have to submit equivalence as given by statutory bodies like AICTE/ UGC/ BCI. Approval given AICTE/ Equivalence given AIU is not admissible for eligibility.
    4. Experience not compulsory. Graduates with long experience are not eligible.
    5. Those holding NET/ SET/ GATE/M Phil are exempted from the entrance exam. But personal interview is compulsory. The score must be valid on date of application. Long experience does not entitle any exemption from entrance test.
    6. The programme flow is Ph D Entrance Test- Personal Interview- Admission- Coursework- Proposal Presentation ( leading to confirmation) - Actual Research Work ( Including Publications)- Mid Review - Pre-submission Seminar- Thesis Submission- Thesis Examination- Viva- voce Examination- Provisional Award of Degree- Convocation.
    7. Coursework decided by Deans of faculties. 75 % attendance is compulsory. UGC regulations warrant regular classes. Those who have completed M Phil with research methodology are exempted from course-work.
    8. Ph D is not a fixed duration programme and UGC regulations warrant a minimum time of 2 years after confirmation. Max time allowed to submit the thesis is 7 years after getting confirmation in the programme.
    9. A few full time students may be offered JRF ship on merit basis. SIU encourages full time research in dedicated research centres

    + Faculty of Management

    Introduction:
    Symbiosis International (Deemed University) offers research programmes leading to award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) through SCRI in the Faculty of Management (FoM). FoM has 11 postgraduate and 5 undergraduate B Schools located across Pune, Nashik, Bengaluru, Noida, Hyderabad and Nagpur. The Faculty of management is one of the largest faculty of the University. The B Schools under the FoM of Symbiosis International University are highly reputed for management education in India. The first B Schools – Symbiosis Institute of Business Management Pune - was established in 1978 and later several other B Schools were established across different locations. The FoM offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, programs in management and related fields. The Faculty of Management offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Management.

    The faculty is known for its innovative and contemporary curriculum, experienced faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and extensive industry connections. The programs are designed to provide students with a solid foundation in management concepts and practices, as well as the skills and knowledge required to excel in today's dynamic and competitive business environment.     • Marketing Management: Has a focus on the development and implementation of marketing strategies, understanding consumer behavior, and building strong brands. A doctoral degree in this area will focus on topics related to marketing, advertising, digital marketing, brand management etc.
    • Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour: Has a focus on human resource management that focus on developing skills in talent management, employee engagement, and organizational behaviour, talent acquisition, employee relations etc.
    • Operations Management: Has a focus on operations management with a focus on optimizing business processes, improving supply chain efficiency, and managing quality. operations management, logistics, supply chain management etc .
    • Financial Management: Financial management has a focus on financial analysis, investment management, and corporate finance, investment banking, financial planning, corporate finance etc.
    • Energy and Environment: Energy and Environment has a focus on the management of energy resources and the impact of business operations on the environment. A doctoral degree in this area will focus on topics related to developing sustainable business practices, strategies to minimize the environmental impact of business operations, Renewable energy industry, Environmental consulting, and sustainability management.
    • Agri Business Management: Agri Business Management has a focus on the business aspects of agriculture, including marketing, finance, and supply chain management. A doctoral degree in this area will focus on agribusiness, agricultural marketing, and rural development, farm management, agricultural finance, and commodity trading.
    Duration and Mode of Coursework for the Batch 2023-24:
    Coursework is conducted in Online mode over weekends and the duration is approximately 6 months (240 Hours). The coursework is conducted by the Faculty of Management of Symbiosis International University. Professor and experts from the field help in conducing the sessions.

    Introduction:
    Faculty of Computer Studies at the Symbiosis International (Deemed University) is committed to excel in research, teaching and consultancy. The research activities at Faculty of Computer Studies are strongly focused in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Geoinformatics and IT Applications. The programmes under the Faculty of Computer Studies are related to IT and IT enabled domains with focus on: understanding the fundamental principles, experiential learning, promoting scientific curiosity, supporting students in developing an understanding of research and thereby life-long learning.

    Introduction:
    The structured PhD program under FoE provides flexibility in multidisciplinary research that focussed on innovative solutions to the real world industry problems as well as societal issues. FoE has motivated intellectual faculty who consider research as an integral part of their responsibilities and publish research papers in highly reputed journals. Simultaneously faculty is also engaged in different externally / internally funded projects therein producing the promising results. FoE ensures that the infrastructural facilities including online data base are made available to the researchers, and encourage them to file patents on their findings.

    FoE has also initiated the collaboration of researcher from reputed universities abroad by appointing the faculty from these universities as co-supervisor to their PhD scholars.

    + Eligibility and Reservation Policy

    A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme must satisfy any one of the following eligibility requirements:
    • A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme
      or
      A 2-year/4-semester master's degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled,

      Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled,
    • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.

      A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled.
    Note:
    International candidates (NRIs, Foreign Nationals and PIOs who have obtained Master's degree from foreign universities) are required to qualify IELTS with 6.5 score or IELA Test (Band 3) of SIU ELTIS, an equivalent test for English language proficiency.

    + Instructions for Registration

    This process is meant for registering you on the website for the admission process of SIU's Ph.D. Programme, 2023-2024. The candidates are instructed to
    • Note that the entire application process is online and the candidate is not required to submit any hard copy of application to the University.
    • Check their eligibility as per the Ph.D. Rulebook. Candidates not possessing a Master's Degree awarded by the Universities shall be required to produce equivalence of qualifications from statutory bodies as per the UGC norms/ Ph. D. Rule Book. Please note that equivalence of degree and approval of the institute/ programme are not the same.
    • Read the guidelines for filling up the form and have all the documents ready for uploading.
    • The candidates are expected to know the sub-streams on offer and the syllabus given on the website.
    • The candidates are expected to know the structure of online PET 2023-2024 mentioned on the website.
    • Please note, the applicants exempted from the entrance test will have to download the admit card for attending Personal Interview (PI). The issue of admit cards is subjected to fulfilling the eligibility conditions.
    • Check calendar/schedule and visit the website regularly to know the status of your application and other related activities.
    • The admit cards for PET, PI and admission offers shall be available through log-in process and no list shall be displayed on SIU web-site.
    • The schedule for PI shall be fixed and exempted/ successful PET candidates shall be informed about the same through log-in process.
    • Note that the University will not be responsible if you miss out any milestone of the admission process including the postal delays.
    Steps for filling the Online Application Form
    • Click on New Users Registration.
    • Click on the 'I Agree' button to accept the Terms and Conditions. Next fill in the details requested on the page displayed.
    • Click on "Save and Continue" to choose a password and the hint questions that will be asked if you forget your password. Then click on "Save and Continue" to register. The screen will now display your SCRI ID.
    • After successful registration, you will get an email containing your SCRI ID and password. Use this SCRI ID for all future correspondence with SCRI. Use this SCRI ID and password to enter the online application form and to make any modification to the details provided by you.
    • The screen will now display the 'Make Payment' option. The online payment mode is highly suggested.
