+ Eligibility Criteria

• Ph.D. in Management - Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree in Management and related fields from a UGC recognized University or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.

• Ph.D. in English, Economics, Mass Communication, Psychology, Social Work, Law : Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree in the respective discipline from a UGC recognized University or a degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
• Note :
  » A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently- abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures
  » The candidate will have to appear in the online St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata Research Entrance Test (XU- RET). The duration of the XU-RET will be of two hours and will comprise of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of 2 marks each with a total of 100 marks for all Ph.D. programmes. Test will have two sections 50 marks for each. The Section I is on Research Methodology and will test on research orientation, aptitude, research designs, methods and analysis. The Section II will be Discipline specific. For Commerce, English, Economics, Mass Communication, Psychology, Social Work and Law this section will have 25 questions on different areas of commerce and for Management, there will 5 questions each on General Management, Finance, Marketing, HR, and Systems & Operations.
  » The Research Entrance Test will be followed by an interview on the subject concerned. Candidates who score more than 50% in XURET will be eligible to sit for the Interview.
  » Candidates who have qualified in the UGC/ CSIRNET or SET / SLET /GATE or have obtained DSTINSPIRE Fellowship /Teacher fellowship or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil./ M. Tech / M.D/ M.E./ M. Pharm or equivalent examination in the subject or allied subject (as approved by DRC) shall be exempted from the written test of St. Xavier’s University Research Entrance Test (XURET) conducted by the University but have to qualify in the interview on the subject to be conducted by the appropriate Department Research Committee (DRC), will be eligible for admission.

+ Application and Admission Procedure

• Step 1: Candidate to check the eligibility criteria from the Ph.D. Programmes 2023 Admission Prospectus.
• Step 2: If eligible, candidate to register and apply online and download the Acknowledgement Slip and Application Payment Receipt after successful completion of the application and fee payment procedures.
• Step 3: Candidate to download and fill up the Offline Application Form and send it to the Ph.D. Office with a copy of Acknowledgement Slip and Application Payment Receipt and all other documents as mentioned in the Application Form. Offline Application Form is invalid without online registration and application. (Kindly check the Enclosures List in Ph.D. Programmes 2023 Admission Prospectus)
• Step 4: Eligible candidate will appear for XU-RET and subsequent Interview.
• Step 5: Selection List will be published, and Admission Procedure will be followed. (Kindly check Ph.D. Programmes 2023 Admission Prospectus for detailed information)

+ IMPORTANT NOTES

• MODE OF XU-RET: Internet Based Test (IBT) will be held. The requirements are mentioned below: Minimum System Requirements for Internet Based Admission Test Windows 7 or above, 2 GB RAM or above, Core 2 Duo or above, 64-bit, 20 GB Free HDD Space in ‘C’ drive, Single plug and play color Web Camera with proper driver installed and working. In case of laptop, inbuilt web camera should be activated. Stable Internet connection will be required.
• MODE OF INTERVIEW: Interview will be held physically, and the candidate will be required to come to the University Campus.

+ Important enclosures with application form

• Copyof “Statement of Purpose” for the proposed Ph.D. Programme, clearly indicating the Research Interest/ Discipline/ Area objective, etc. (2 Pages)
• Self-attested copies of certificates & marksheets of qualifying degrees and other certificates (from Secondary level onwards)
• One passport size colour photograph (to be affixed on application form).
• No-Objection Certificate from the employer (If applicable)
• One example of scholarly research or professional writing (preferable)
• Acknowledgments slip, Application Fee Payment Receipt along with application form.

+ Ph.D. Programme Fee

• Application Fee: INR 2500 (at the time of Online Application).
• Fee Details: The Annual Fees are to be paid in two equal instalments before the commencement of subsequent semester.
  Total Annual Fees: ₹1,00,000/-
  1st & 2nd Instalment of Annual Fees: ₹ 50,000/- for each semester (to be paid before the commencement of each semester)
  Fees to be paid at the time of Admission: 1st Instalment of Annual Fees of Year 1 (₹ 50,000/-) and ₹ 10,000/- (Refundable Security Deposit).
• Accommodation: The outstations students may get hostel accommodation in the campus, if available. The hostel charges will have to be paid separately by student as per the University hostel rules.
