Deshbandhu College for Girls, dedicated to the memory of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das was founded by the Late Dr. Hemendra Nath Das Gupta and the Late Principal Jitesh Chandra Guha with the the utmost efforts of Dr.Suddhasattwa Bose and Sri Nakshatra kumar Ray Chaudhury. The College has developed into a wellknown institution for women students. Renowned educationists and historians like the late Dr. Nihar Ranjan Ray and the late Pratul Chandra Gupta were actively associated with the college and they rendered untiring sevices towards the development of the college.
The college was established in 1955 as an affiliated college of the University of Calcutta and has come a long way as one of the fastest growing institutions for girls in kolkata. The college has both B.A., B.Com and B.Sc. Courses. Students studing Geography and Economic as their pass subjects are treated as B.Sc. students. The College expects more new affiliations in the near future.
