Courses Offered :

The college admits both male and female students into its three years BA (Honours and general) courses. The courses are open to those who have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2 course) conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination recognized as such by West Bengal State University.

Admissions Rules :

Session :

The academic session commences on and from First day of July every year. First year classes are generally started after the completion of admission procedure. Second year and third year classes usually commence within 7 days from the date of completion of part- I and Part-II examination is done accordingly.

Admission Criteria :

Admission is open to both male and female candidates. Application for admission in prescribed from (available with the prospectus of the college), is to be made immediately after the publication to the results of the qualifying examination of the council on the basis of notification by the college. Application form and prospectus can be obtained from the college office on production of original mark-sheet during the prescribed hours on payment of 50/- only. Students are given admission to 1st year class for part-I, 2nd year class for part-II and to 3rd year class for part-III.

Admissions are done on the basis of admission rules framed by the college and on the basis of the merit of the students.
The names of the candidates selected for interview or for admission and other details about the admission are duly notified in the notice board of the college.
Admission from, not properly filled in, shall not be considered. Admission is liable to be cancelled if false information is furnished.
A candidate taking up Honours must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate with 45% marks in the subject or related subject in the previous qualifying examination in which that subject is included.
55% marks in the subjects or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
50% marks in aggregate when the candidate takes up Honours in the subjects not included in his/her previous qualifying examination, provided other clauses are satisfied.
For SC/ST candidates: Minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination.

Documents required for admission :

Each selected candidate must produce the following documents at the time of admission:

  • The original mark-sheet of the last qualifying examination.
  • Attested photocopies of the mark-sheet of the last qualifying examination.
  • Attested photocopies of date of birth documents. (M.P. Admit Card)
  • Attested photocopies of the admit card of last qualifying examination passed.
  • Two copies of a recent passport size photograph (4.33 cm X 3.5 cm)
  • Attested photocopies of the caste/tribe certificates.

Admission on transfer from other colleges :

For admission to this college a candidates who was previously admitted to another college must note the following points :

  • Application to the Principal on a plain paper stating the reason for transfer to this college is to be submitted with attested photocopies of certificates and mark-sheets.
  • Intimation will be duly communicated to the candidate in due course after clearance for admissions on transfer.
  • Transfer Certificate is to be obtained only on clearance for admission on transfer into this college.
  • The candidate must produce transfer certificate in original at the time of admission.
  • The candidate must remain personally present along with his/her parents/guardian at the time of admission.

Re-Admission :

  • The students who discontinue and are unsuccessful in the university and College examination cannot claim re-admission. The decision in the matter of re-admission will be taken by the principal. The students failing in the 1st year test examination or discontinuing in the 1st year class may be re-admitted in the 1st year class as per the notification of the W. B. S. U.
  • Re-admission of all applicants is not guaranteed.

Migration :

Any candidate qualifying in Higher Secondary (10+2) Course from any recognized Board/Council in India other than W.B. Council of H.S. Education and seeking admission to B.A. courses in this College must produce a migration certificate at the time of admission. Similarly, a student migrating to W.B.S.U. for B.A. General or Honours course from any other University will be required to produce a Migration certificate at the time of admission. A migration fee of Rs.100/- is payable.

Admission of Foreign Students :

In addition to the migration certificate foreign students who are duly qualified and are seeking admission into the college will be required to produce student-visa issued by the Indian high Commission and permission from Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, at the time of admission. The residential identity of the candidate duly certified by appropriate police authorities must also be produced at the time of admission.

  • »  Prize :
    We wish to award prizes like books, medals and certificates annually to the students on the basis of their performance in the final Examination and regularity in attendance in classes and for excellence in co-curricular activities.
  • »  Student's Health Home :
    All students of this college are eligible for membership of students' health home where they can enjoy facilities like Out-door consultation, Operation, X-ray, Pathological Tests etc. They can also have medicines, spectacles etc. free of cost at a concessional rate from students' Health Home. The students' Health home is located at Basirhat Town School and 142/2, A.J.C. Bose Road, Kolkata-700014 (Opposite to R.A. Dental college, Sealdah). Students must carry their college identity card at the time of consultation at the "Home".
  • »  Benefit to SC/ST/Minority Students :
    As per existing order of the Government, 22% and 6% and of the available for admission into different classes are reserved for SC and ST candidates respects. The students may receive SC/ST scholarship, provided their eligibility proved. SC/ST committee is formed by G.B. as per rules to look after their interest.
  • »  Library :
    The College Library and Reading Room remain open from 11 a.m. till end of normal college hours at 3.00 p.m. on all working days of the college.
    The timing for issue of books to students of different classes will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Subject to change, if necessary).
    A Borrower's card is issued to each student for taking out books from the library on loan. The Borrower's Card is retained by the Librarian at the time of issue of books and the person concerned is held responsible till the books are returned. In case of loss of the Borrower's card, the person concerned will be charged a fine of Rs. 5/- on receipt of witch a duplicate Borrower's card will be issued.
    Library Clearance Certificate, to be issued by the Librarian, is required at the time of issue of admit card for University examination.
    A reading room card is issued to each student for issue of books in the reading room. Departmental Libraries are organized and managed by the concerned departments. Detailed Library rules are printed in a separate pamphlet and are available in the Library. Library services are also available to the teachers and the office staff.
  • »  Laboratory And Equipment :
    The Geography department has large and well equipped laboratory.
  • »  Cycle Stand :
    There is a spacious cycle stand within the college premise.
  • »  Common Room :
    There is a spacious The college has well equipped common rooms for boys and girls with facilities for indoor games and this can be used by the students during recess hours throughout the year except on holidays and the days of University and college examination.
  • »  Hostel :
    The college also maintains a Girls hostel within the campus. Total number of seats : 42.
    For getting admission to the hostel of the college a student has to apply is a prescribed form to be obtained from the office.
  • »  Concession and Poor Aid Funds :
    Concession from tuition fees and Grants from poor-Aid Fund are available to poor meritorious students on the basis of prescribed available from the college office after due notification. These applications are disposed off and the list of recipients of concessions and grants is prepared in a meeting of the concession and poor Aid subcommittee formed by the Governing body. The guardians of the applicants may be invited in the meetings to present their cases, if necessary.

Hingalganj Mahavidyalaya, an institute with distinction, started with a view to impart higher education among the students on 24th February, 2005. The Foundation stone was laid by Dr. Asim Dasgupta, Honourable Finance Minister of West Bengal at the present location of the college. Initially teaching started at Hingalganj High School in the morning section and Later on 16 th august, 2007 the college started functioning at the present location. The college was formerly affiliated to the University of Calcutta and from the session 2008-09 the College has been affiliated to the west Bengal State University North 24 Parganas.

The vision of this institution is to render our college into a center of quality learning and our mission is to shape our students into smart responsible and sincere citizens by imparting both material and moral education.
