  • Postgraduate-Admission to postgraduate courses is offered by following the admission rules of the Vidyasagar University.

Eligibility Criterion:

  • Undergraduate-The word "course" leading to the three year Honours or General degree courses is meant for those who have passed the Higher Secondary (10 + 2 course) Examination conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination conducted by an examining body recognized by the Vidyasagar University, in at least five recognized subjects including two language subjects of which one must be English, not earlier than 2012. Applicants, who have passed their Higher Secondary/equivalent examination prior to 2012, are not allowed to apply for admission to three year degree courses.

  • Applicants who have passed Higher Secondary/equivalent examination with minimum 45% marks in the aggregate (to be calculated by adding the marks obtained in 'best five' subjects) or 50% marks in the Honours subject or Honours related subject are eligible to apply for admission to the Honours Course. However, Applicants carrying pass marks in at least five subjects in the Higher Secondary /equivalent examination are eligible to apply for admission to the General Course.

  • A deduction of 10% will be done from the merit points for those applicants who have passed their Higher Secondary/equivalent examination in 2012.

  • The college authority, however, reserves all rights to change any of the above criteria and guidelines, if required.

  • Admission will be done on the basis of merit, and 'merit point'.

  • Postgraduate-Currently there is no information about post graduate courses.


  • As per existing Government Orders 22% of the available seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste applicants and 6% for Scheduled Tribe applicants. 3% reservation of seats for disabled (P. H.) applicants.

Selection criterion:

  • For Hons: Merit point = Marks of Honours Subject + 10% of Aggregate (For Hans. course)

  • For general course: Merit point= Aggregate (For General course) (Aggregate =Total marks of best five including one language subject)

  • A deduction of 10% will be done from the merit points for those applicants who have passed their Higher Secondary/equivalent examination in 2012.

Additional Informations:

  • Admission to different courses is made strictly in order of merit. Notices regarding the rules and procedure of admission to different courses are issued regularly and displayed on the college Notice Board.Applicants are directed to follow the college Notice Board for these notices regularly.

  • The application form, duly filled-up must be submitted to the College Office within specified date and time. Self attested photo copies of mark sheets issued by the Council of Examination or the University Concerned, a character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended and one self attested passport size photograph will have to be attached to the application form. In addition, Scheduled Caste/Tribe/Physically Handicapped/O. B. C. applicants will have to submit self attested photo copies of relevant certificates from the competent authority.

  • Non-Compliance with any of the following will Lead to the Cancellation of the Application

  • Provisional selection lists for admission are displayed on the College Notice Board only. Each selected applicant must submit his/her original mark sheet (non-laminated) of the last qualifying examination, the admit card of Madhyamik Examination (as a proof of age) and deposit the original Character Certificate from the Head of the lnstitution 1ast attended, at the time of admission. Beside these, he/she has to pay requisite fees on the date of admission.

  • Applicants who have passed their previous examination(s) from the examining bodies other than the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education are required to submit migration certificates from appropriate authorities within a specified period of time.

  • An applicant for admission to the college, who has been previously admitted to another college, must produce documents showing cancellation of his/her previous admission at the time of admission, failing which he/she will loss his/her claim for admission.

  • All admissions are Provisional. If a student fails to attend classes for two consecutive weeks from the date of commencement of classes (both Hons. & General), his/her studentship is liable to be cancelled, even without notice.

  • No change in the combination of subjects is allowed after the last date of admission.

  • An applicant is allowed to apply for two Hons. courses and one General course at most.


The academic session of the B. A/ B. Sc./ B. Com. Hons. and General Courses of the college starts from July of every year and continues up to June of the next year. At the time of admission an applicant has to pay the following fees..

Payment of Fees

These fees are payable every month on stipulated dates to be notified.
Fees are payable in advance for vacation periods. No fees are collected during vacation.
Transfer fee is equal to one month's tuition fee.
If fees are not paid for two months, name of the student will be automatically struck off from the register.
Laboratory and library caution deposits are refundable after deductions for loss, damage, etc., if any.

Facilities: Schloarship/Free studentship

As per existing Government rules a number of students are granted free and half-free studentship to avail which student has to apply for the same in a plain paper attaching

The college provides a number of scholarship that are given according to the guidelines set by the Govt. of West Bengal which includes merit of the student and family income (less than Rs.80000/-) Poor and needy students may also avail themselves financial assistance from students' aid fund. Irregular students are not entitled for scholarships.


The infrastructure and facility available on campus are amongst the very best. The college is set in a huge campus of 327 acres amid the serene and verdant plantations of Mahua, Sal and Piasal ideally suited for education. The infrastructure and facilities available on campus are amongst the very best. The campus comprises of everything that students would ever require on a campus.

  • The College has adequate physical infrastructure (land and building) that comprises class rooms, faculty rooms, laboratories, library, computer centre, hostels, canteen, play grounds, indoor games facility and residential quarters.

    • Laboratories: The College has separate laboratories for all subjects i.e. Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Physiology and Zoology. All laboratories are well equipped to meet the requirements of teaching and learning as per the syllabus.

    • Library- The College has got a library very rich in books and journals related to different subjects. The library also possesses a very good collection of general interest books like Encyclopedias, Biographies and Dictionaries etc.

    • Play Grounds and Indoor games facilities- The College provides indoor and outdoor games and sports facilities to its students. There are two play grounds which are used for playing different games. Indoor facility for table tennis is also available. Facilities are adequate to hold inter-collegiate tournaments.

    • Hostel- The College provides separate hostel accommodation to boy and girl students. The boys' hostels at present accommodate 220 boarders, while the girls' hostel accommodates 50 boarders.

    • Modern Fitness Gymnasium- The work is in progress for setting up a Modern Fitness Gymnasium which is going to complete very soon.

    • Parking - The College provides parking places for bicycles, motor cycles and cars also.

    • Residential Quarters- The College quarters are available for teaching staffs and also for non-teaching staffs.

  • The College gives top priority in holding regular classes. Classes are engaged by well qualified and experienced faculty members.

The college began its journey in the year 1949 as Jhargram Agriculture College. Practically, it is the brainchild of the then King of Jhargram - Late Raja Narasingha Malladev Bahadur. He donated more than 320 acres of land for the development of the college. The college was affiliated under Calcutta University till 1985. Teaching in new building started in 1950. Government of West Bengal took over this institution and renamed it as Jhargram Raj College (JRC). The first batch of students sat for I.Sc. (Agr.), I.A. and I.Sc. Examination in 1951, while B.Sc. (Agr.) (Pass & Hons) course was introduced from 1953. I.Sc. (Agr.) course continued here since 1949 and in 1961 P.U. (Agr.) was introduced. From the year 1962, this course was abolished forever. Nowadays the college is offering to the undergraduate students a whole array of subjects from three disciplines of Arts, Commerce and Science. The college is also offering postgraduate courses in Bengali, Chemistry and Zoology.On 8th May, 1999, the college celebrated the completion of 50 years of its glorious existence.
