Admission Procedure

The candidates/ willing students are asked to note the following:

  • A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, CBSE, ISC or other State Boards/ Councils or Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya and National Open School, recognized by Distant Learning Council is eligible to seek admission to the first year of the three year B.A/B.Sc./B.Com (Honours/ General) Course of studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. However, no candidate shall be allowed for admission after lapse of more than three years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognised regular course of study after passing the previous qualifying examination. For admission to the Honours / Generals course marks obtained in top four subjects shall be considered to ascertain the aggregate marks of a candidate. Environmental Education / Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject Environmental Science/Studies is an elective subject of 100 marks, then it may be taken into account for determining the aggregate marks.

  • Application to seek Admission shall be by online process only.

  • All admissions will be made on the basis of Merit List. There will be no Direct Admission. Admission will be closed as soon as the seats are filled.

  • Norms for making application for admission to 1st year Honours classes (General Category: )

    • A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.

    • 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.

    • 50% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied subjects in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied.

    Accounting & Finance Honours: Marks in Mathematics or Statistics shall be considered as related subject for candidates applying from the Science stream.
    Separate forms have to be submitted for separate Honours/ General/ Courses application.

  • In case of Scheduled Caste/Tribe Students: 40% in aggregate and 40% in subject or related subject. They have to produce Caste Certificate in original issued by appropriate authority at the time of admission.

  • Verification of Forms:
    • Venue: College Campus

    • Original Mark-sheet of HS/ISC/CBSE/NOS, Admit card / Certificate of Madhyamik and SC/ ST certificate (if any) to be produced at the time of verification.

    • Documents to be submitted at the time of admission/ verification:
      • 2 sets of attested copies of marksheet of the last qualifying Examinations (H.S/ C.B.S.E/ I.S.C etc.)

      • Two sets of attested copies of Admit Card/ Certificate of Madhyamik/ Equivalent Examination (for age proof)

      • School leaving certificate/ Character certificate from the head of the institution last attended (original).

      • Attested copy of SC/ST Certificate from appropriate authority (issued by the Govt. of West Bengal) where applicable.

      • 4 copies of recent revenue stamp size color photograph

      • Address Proof (/Xerox Copy of Ration Card/ Voter’s Identity Card/ Telephone Bill/ Electricity Bill/ Bank Pass Book)

  • The originals of the above documents (1, 2, 4) are to be produced at the time of verification of the Admission Form Submission of Admission Forms does not guarantee for admission. In case of any dispute, the decision of the Admission Sub-committee will be final and will be implemented without assigning any reason whatsoever.

Facilities at Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya

  • »  Library :

    The college posses a stock of 13,387 books on different topics and subjects and a number of journals and periodicals in its spacious and computerised library. Endeavour towards its further enrichment is being and the lending section.

    The library of Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya has got an adjacent wide reading space. The students can also access Internet facilities in the library.

  • »  Identity Card :

    Each student is provided with an Identity Card. This card is to be carried always and presented when required. If it is lost, the Principal must be informed immediately. A new identity card may be issued on payment of Rs. 10 only. In case of transfer from the College this card must be returned to the College office.

  • »  Concession and Stipend :

    The College offers students' concession in respect of tuition fees to the needy and meritorious students. For SC/ST students stipends are awarded by the state Govt. provided they submit all necessary documents required for the purpose. However, the above facilities may be withdrawn on charges of gross misconduct, irregular attendance etc.

  • »  Railway Concession :

    Railway concession forms are issued to bona fied students for travelling to and from the College by train. Railway concessions are also available for educational tours from the College

  • »  Cheap Stores :

    Cheap store facilities at RGSN complex where books & stationery at reduced rates are available.

  • »  Common Room :

    There are separate common rooms for boys and girls. The girls' common room has a lady attendant and a separate toilet attached to it. The common rooms remain open during College hours. There are arrangements for indoor games.

  • »  Cycle Stand :

    A cycle shed is available for the students to park their motorcycles and cycles in the RGSN Complex free of cost.

  • »  College Magazine :

    The College publishes a magazine every year with active participation of the Students' Union. The students, teachers and non-teaching staff help in various ways in publishing the magazine and contributing write ups and so on

  • »  Grievance Redressal Cell :

    The Grievance Redressal Cell, as functioning in the College, is meant for addressing the grievances formally lodged by the students and the guardians. The said G.R. Cell has been formed selecting members from among the teaching, non-teaching staff and students. The Cell includes two lady teachers.

  • »  Wall Magazines & Journals :

    The College provides specific spaces for displaying wall magazines published by the College and different departments. Students are encouraged to contribute to their departmental wall magazines.

  • »  Seminars :

    Seminars, symposia and extension are organised from time to time by the College and the different departments separately where eminent educationists and professionals are invited as speakers/resource persons.

    To supplement the curriculum and introduce learner-centric teaching method, students are encouraged to act as speakers.

  • »  Museum :

    The College has organised and maintains a museum on Rashtraguru Surendranath Banerjea in the RGSN Complex. The museum is occasionally visited by outsiders. The College is developing the museum by adding a small library on Rashtraguru.

  • »  Alumni :

    The College has an Alumni Association. A separate room for Alumni Association has been provided by the College. The Alumni Association has applied for registration.

  • »  Prizes and Awards :

    The Teachers' Council awards prizes to students securing highest marks in different departments in college annual examinations.The College will award prizes and medals to students obtaining highest marks in the examinations at the University level also. Prizes also are awarded to successful candidates in different events of sports and games.

  • »  Canteen :

    Snacks and tea are available in the cheap canteen at reduced rates

Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya, a co-educational day College, originally affiliated to the University of Calcutta (date of affiliation: 29.07.1968), was founded in Monirampore, under Barrackpore Sub-division of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, by Late Swami Jyotirmoyananda Giri Maharaj, in the sacred memory of his preceptor Late Swami Mahadevananda Giri Maharaj, on the auspicious day of Janmashtami, and the Independence Day, the 15th of August, 1968. The 15th of August being a holiday, the 16th of August has been officially declared as the Foundation Day of the College. The College, now a multifaculty one, is situated within the KMDA area, on the eastern bank of the river Hooghly. It is well-connected by road, river-traffic and the railway station, which is only 2 kms. from the campus.

In the late sixties, when the College was founded, Monirampore, though well-known for the quality products of its many brick-fileds, was a sparsely populated, quiet, semi-urban area. Today Monirampore is a semi-urban, semi-industrial, densely populated area. Mahadevananda Mahavidyalaya is the only college in the area as well as the only study centre providing various popular courses of Netaji Subhas Open University catering to the variety of needs of higher education not only of the local people but also of the people belonging to the wide catchment area of the College. The College was included in the list of colleges by UGC U/S 2F of UGC Act of 1956, on the 11th of April, 1987 with retrospective effect.

The College had a very humble beginning with a few departments in the science faculty, but within a few years, both Arts and Commerce streams were introduced. From the date of inception of the College ( 16.08.1968) till date, the number of subjects taught increased from 5 to 20 in General courses and from 0 to 12 in Honours courses; the number of students from 143 to 2507, the number of teachers from 5 to 62 and the number of non-teaching employees from 7 to 36. Land area under possession increased from 0.197 acres to over 3 acres, and built-up area from 812 sq. mts. to 4,490 sq.mts.
