Panchakot Mahavidyalaya, Purulia was established in 2001 by the strength of public donation. The College was founded by generous help and active co-operation of the local people and the dedicated efforts of some visionaries of the district of Purulia. The University of Burdwan has given spontaneous positive response that effectively materialized in the establishment of this long dreamt institution of higher education. The Institute has the picturesque surroundings near the foothills of ‘Panchakot Pahar’ at the northernmost of the district of Purulia. Physically it is located at Sarbari More beside Purilia-Barakar Road on one side and Panchet-Madhukunda Road on the other. The College offers under graduate courses in Arts, commerce and Science stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities.

The College comes under the University of Burdwan. This University was started in 1960 with Sukumar Sen as its first Vice-chancellor. It occupies an exalted place amongst the universities of West Bengal. It has been awarded with 4 star statuses by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) to acknowledge the contribution of Burdwan University in the educational development of the state.
