Six Months Certificate Course on Counselling
The College in collaboration with Centre for Counselling Service and Studies in Self Development, Jadavpur University, has introduced a Six month Certificate Course for students, titled 'Basic Skills of Counselling and Stress Management' The course is held on Saturdays from 2.30 to 4.00 pm. It is designed to help the young minds to recognize and address their own areas of stress, and also to understand the mental states of their peer members. The Course is divided in two sections: one focuses on the development of Basic Skills of Communication, Empathy, Leadership, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Emotional Intelligence, the other deals with Stress Management. Here the emphasis is on understanding the causes of stress, nature of stress, effects of stress (physical and psychical), genesis of stress, kinds of stress, and learning the management strategies and techniques. The Course imparts both theoretical as well as practical exposures. The students are also taught to be peer counsellors.
This is a self-funded Course for students where the students get an opportunity to establish a connection with the Centre for Counselling Service and Studies in Self Development of Jadavpur University, and pursue any relevant study in the near future. The Course fee has been kept very nominal to make it affordable for the students.
George School of Competitive Exams (GSCE)
The College has initiated a 52 week Preparatory Course for Public Sector jobs like Bank, Police, Staff Selection, Rail, PSC, LIC, WBSSC, WBSEDCL, WBPDCL etc. in collaboration with the George School of Competitive Exams (GSCE) in May, 2015. This is a self-funded course exclusively designed for present as well as past students of the College and is offered at a much reduced rate. Classes are held on Saturdays, 1.30-4.30 pm in the College campus.
Certificate course in Spoken English and Soft Skill Development in collaboration with Acharya Institutes, Bengaluru
To prepare students for job interviews and higher academic pursuits, the College offers a self-funded Certificate Course in Spoken English and Soft Skill Development in collaboration with Acharya Institutes, Bengaluru. The Spoken and Functional English curriculum is designed to enhance the students' English language skills through situational learning. The course focuses on developing the four core skills essential to learning a language - listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students, most of whom belong to Bengali speaking families, and come from vernacular school backgrounds, are taught the basic skills for facing interviews and group discussions. They are trained to use English in daily interactions and basic documentation. They also learn to read and follow instructions in English, and feel comfortable using domain-specific terms.
Classes are held during zero hour, before the commencement of regular classes.
